Mouth Sores

I don't know if you have ever tried Vegemite, it's a spread made from yeast extract. I've had success putting some on mouth ulcers. It hurts like the bejeesus for a minute, then feels so much better, and they seem to heal quicker.

leatherette - L glutamine reduce neuropathy? Please let me know how did it work, I forgot to check out GNC today .... sucks!!
-
I had infusion #2 yeaterday and it was my nurse's last day after 44 years! Very special as I was her last ever patient. She told me we are more susceptible to mouth sores days #7-14 (on a two week cycle). This lines up with when I got my sores. She said to be particularly diligent with mouth rinses and cleaning around this time.
-
Rdeeside- she is right I got my mouth sore on day 7 or 8 and this is the only time I have low WBC. I wonder if I have higher WBC would I get it?
-
First round, I got the mouth sores on day 8, but I thought I was out of the woods this time-didn't happen until day 13. The sores aren't as big as last time, just the location being the tip of my tongue is what's brutal. I had to go in today for my eyes (tearing, gummy, glued shut when I wake up), but ended up leaving with vicodin for the mouth pain. Apparently it is all mucositis. Nothing is infected, which is good. The vicodin is making life a little liveable again.
Paulette, I do feel that the L-glutamate helped with neuropathy symptoms. I am not having tingling or numbness in my toes or fingers this time like I did with the first round. It alsomay have helped by giving me the five extra mouth sore-free days this round. I'd say it's worth a try, but check with your oncologist to make sure it's okay with your treatment plan. In some cases, they don't want you to take it.
Freya, the Vegemite idea is interesting, but I really don't like Vegemite. I'll keep it in mind as a last resort.
-
Leatherette- thank you so much I will ask my Onc next week. I hate the little pains on my finger tips.
Happy that you get your happy pill
-
Very happy-did not take vicodin at all today and have not had any bad pain. I think the one on the tip of my tongue is healing. Of course, now I am aware of other sores, but they at least don't hurt when I am not even eating anything!
-
I think time is the only thing that really works
-
leatherette - I asked the nurse yesterday she confirmed we need to rinse our mouth and take good care on day 7-14. It seems the al- glutamate works!
-
Good!
Ya know, I'm going to have to stop sharing good news here. Soon after I wrote about my mouth being better, it started to hurt and got progressively worse. Back to the vicodin. At least I had some pain and med-free time.....
-
Sucks!!! Leatherette- take care your sours
-
Leatherette I'm sorry, that totally sucks!
-
Better today- how about you guys? I guess I have some white blood cells on board again!
-
I'm on day 4 of AC #2. I guess my high risk days will be coming up soon. Will be super careful with foods for the next few days and keep rinsing. So far so good for me! Hoping to keep it that way
-
Good luck rdeeside, tomorrow is my day 4 I have to do the same also
I hate Day 4 because it is usually starts my bad days, day 4-6 are the hardest days for me.
-
Paulette, isn't it funny that we are on the same regimen but have different bad days? I will be thinking of you and hoping the next few days aren't too bad for you.
-
rdeeside- I got very tired and lose appetite on day 4- 6 then I get depressed on that three days. I need to pick myself up on these days and remind myself this is the last AC it's over on my AC days.
-
Hi ladies can anyone share a tip with me on what to use when your nose gets really dry?
-
I had very painful sores on my tongue after docetaxol. I tried oil pulling and it seemed to help with the sores as well as the white film caked on my tongue. I used coconut oil and added a couple drops of either tea tree or oregano oil and swished the oil around in my mouth for about 20 minutes.
-
Kimber,
Sent you a text!
-
Thanks Shelabela, I will be looking for it next time I go shopping...
-
Ok I really tried my best this time, I still got two little mouth sores, one of each sides f my cheek 😡😡😡 I got some Orajel and I hope it helps.
-
Completely by accident, I found that sucking on lozenges from Young Living essential oils - Thieves Oil healed my mouth sores very quickly. I was using them to prevent dry mouth, but that was a bonus. Just fyi - mouth sores ate NO fun!
Prayers and love all around ♡
-
ML1209 - that's sound so good, where can I buy this lozenges from Young Living? I know Amazon got it then it takes days for shipping.
Rdeeside- I found from day 4 to 6 are tough for my mouth on AC infusion. I can feel inside my mouth was on fire. Gums were in pains also. Now I'm on day 8 I can feel my gums are getting better but I got couple small little mouth sores. Can't win this chemo.
-
Paulette, sorry to hear about themouth sores. Are they common withTaxol too? I hope not but I think so.
Yes, where do we get these lozenges? Do you think that just keeping your mouth moist is why it helps?
-
Rdeeside- only place I found to have this lozenges is Amazon and it is $24 for 30 candies. Some people said it taste yuck! So I am not sure should I get it or not.
I'm meeting my nurse on Monday and go over taxol then I will find out is mouth sore is one of the SE. If it isn't then we don't have to worry. According to my MO it's the red devil gave us the mouth sores.
-
ML1209- I ordered those lozenges-I'll report back on how they work for me, Paulette. If they really work, the price will be well worth it! Even if it tastes bad...I like clove and eucalyptus, so maybe I'll like it
-
Leatherette - I wait for your report, I only have onesmall sore I can deal with it. If it works I am willing to pay for it.
-
rdeeside, I did not get mouth sores from Taxol. Only the AC.
-
shela - if this happens to me I could be dancing 💃 💃💃🙌🙌
