I'm 23 years old and just have some questions. Sometimes it's uncomfortable to lie down on my stomach/on my breasts as if there's something "there"- is this normal? Im pretty thin and probably a b cup, am I just feeling my ribs or chest wall? I tried feeling with my hands too and it just feels like there's something back there, so I know that it's probably just my body but when I think about this I get so anxious that I can't move and I sit here and obsess for hours. Is the chest wall supposed to be hard when you sink your hands down all the way? Please tell me it's okay

    Hi Help113,

    I'm so sorry that you've found your way to a breast cancer site. And that you're anxious and obsessing about your breasts. (BTW, there is almost no possibility that you have breast cancer at 23.)

    I'm really sorry that I think descriptions from me aren't going to help in describing/identifying what you're feeling (you say you're thin and a b-cup, but every body is different....) Here's what I think you ought to do:

    When you next think about this during business hours where you live, call your primary care provider or GYN and ask for an appointment to learn how to do a breast self-exam and to have someone check on something that feels "odd" to you when you're lying face down, and that you can feel with your hands.

    Note, you don't want a pamphlet or a web-site, you want "hands-on" instruction. There is likely a nurse, PA or other educator either in your docs office or in a nearby facility that they can refer you to.

    Your "instructor" might suggest a breast-self exam aid, like this: Note that I haven't used this, but have used a similar device. NAYY. And notwithstanding the video saying "mammograms" note that they said as recommended by your doc. You are unlikely to have routine mammograms recommended at your age.
