How long from the time you found your tumor till Tx?

All,

I am wondering how long is TOO long before traetment begins. I found my tumor on 6/5 and still have not started treatment. Lots of detours and bumps in the road. My doctor now wants to see about getting me in a clinical trial which would probably delay tx another two weeks at least. I think the trial would be a good thing, but I'm really worried about all these delays. I hope someone with some clinical knowledge can jump in.

    Found tumour on June 15th, surgery Aug. 16th and chemo Nov. 25th.

    I am doing great 4 years out but hopefully someone with clinical knowledge will be along soon.

    I found my tumor around 5/11, biopsy confirm around 6/20, first chemo 7/19.

    Everything happened very quickly for me, just over a week. I feel for those of you who have to wait for seemingly ages between tests. This was all done in the public health system in Australia.

    Sat night - found lump

    Sun morn - examined by GP

    Mon morn - Mammo, U/sound and FNA (told me they were sure it was cancer)

    Tues - Appt with BS and core biopsy

    Wed - CT scan (staging)

    Thur - Bone scan (staging)

    Fri - Appt with BS for biopsy results and surgery plan

    Monday - Mastectomy.

    Frey: Wow! One week?!?! Your head must have been spinning. How were you able to to emotionally process all of that so quickly?

    I had one month between diagnosis and the start of neoadjuvant chemo. In retrospect, I wish I had waited. I didn't take time to research, ask all of my questions, consider all of my treatment options, or get a second opinion.

    Hang in there, rdeesides. The waiting is the hardest part. Use the time to prepare for any anticipated SE's from your upcoming treatment. Run those extra errands and do those little projects around the house that never seem to get done. Keeping yourself occupied will help the time pass more quickly.

    Laura, I actually think it suited me being that quick. I researched the BS, he was one of the best in the country, and I liked and felt comfortable with him. A mastectomy was the only choice due to the size of the tumour, (10cm), neoadjuvant chemo was not a common treatment here at the time.

    I'm more practical than emotional, present me with the facts and I can make a decision in no time.

    I received the diagnosis on Jan 4th and began tx 2 weeks later. It was a whirlwind, but my tumor was 7cm, so they wanted to start chemo before it grew too large. Unfortunately the chemo ended up not working and it still grew (stayed same on AC, grew on Taxol/carbo). I then had a bilateral mastectomy, with clear margins. I had a fast growing tumor, so who knows how large it would have gotten if I had to wait 2 months. I think that is a factor in deciding how long to wait for treatment.

    how are you now? I didn't respond to chemo so surgery removed 10 cm tumor 2 months after I found mass. What is my future?

    Just short of a month from mammogram to start of neo-adj chemo. In that short time you could easily tell my tumors where growing.

    It's very interesting how everyone's timeline is so different.

    I felt a lump in early this past August, maybe 8/10, but waited a week until my OB/GYN gott back from vacation so she could check it out.

    Diagnostic ammo/ultrasound: 8/24

    Core biopsy: 9/6

    Results w/ diagnosis: 9/11

    First meeting with oncologist and surgeons: 9/15

    (flurry of further testing)

    Neoadj Chemo: starts 10/6 - would have been sooner but there was a delay caused by one facility not sending biopsy slides to another.

    That's about 2 months from my first feeling something to starting chemo treatment.

    I'm a newbie here myself, but what I have so far seems faster than some and slower than some...

    September 16th, found the lump

    September 19th, OB examined and recommended a mammogram/ultra sound (diagnostic)

    September 25th, Mammogram, Ultra sound, core biopsy, and clip

    September 28th, Diagnosed

    October 3rd consultation with Surgeon

    I'm freaking out too because I just think, shouldn't we move even faster than this to stop this thing from moving. But I guess I feel better knowing that a lot of people have waited longe, so it's not unheard of.
