Hi out there, I was wondering if anyone has went thru with the double mastectomy after a reduction then had reconstruction, I saw my surgeon yesterday and she was mentioning it might be hard from me to have a reconstruction after. Anyone eles went thru this??

I didn't have reduction previous to my diagnosis, however the difficulty may depend on the type of recon: implants put in under muscle, implants put in over muscle, natural tissue reconstruction. I'd clarify with them which types of recon would be "difficult" and what would the difficulties be. I don't know where you're at in the country but the docs at the center for breast restoration surgery in New Orleans has successfully reconstructed some botched mastectomies/reconstructions that would make you cringe. Your situation would likely be a walk in the park for them. Women travel from all over the world (literally) to have them do their reconstruction, so don't let traveling there hold you back.

I had a reduction and then a BMX with TEs and implants (under the muscle). The reduction didn't create any problems per se with my reconstruction. I've had problems but they've been unrelated to my initial reduction. What did the PS think would be problematic?
