I had a routine mammogram and it showed asymmetry on the left breast i was called back for a spot compression and ultrasound the dr at the hospital didnt even speak to me the ultrasound tech come back into the room and said i have to come for a 6 month follow up they didnt tell me what they found and when i ask the ultrasound tech about the spot compression what did that show she said its gone im assuming she was talking about the asymmetry i asked her was it overlapping tissue she said yes it doesnt show anything on the spot compression it was like pulling teeth doctor never spoke to me at the hospital and the ultrasound tech i was asking her questions dont know what overlapping tissue is and why a follow up of 6 months and not 1 year not happy about this the doctor should of come in after the additional testing was donenothing was explain to me what is overlapping tissue? im kind of lost and dont know what to do from here any information work be helpful; im new to this site

    sable, That must be frustrating! Ask for a copy of the written report. Follow up with the Radiologist if you have questions. The tech is not supposed to give you any information on the results. You may also be able to get results to another Dr for a second opinion. Maybe someone else here will have other suggestions as well. Best wishes.

    I tried speaking to my doctor before he on vacation he was so nasty with me just asking him question about the asymmetry and what that meant he was so nasty now i have been going to him for close to 30 years and at the hopital after additional testing the doctor at the hospital is suppose to come in a speak to me about the spot compression and ultrasound and doctor at the hospital never come in and the utlrasound tech come in and told me the doctor what u to come back for 6 month follow up and i said will what did they find the tech told me nothing was found so when i asked the tech how about the spot compression she didnt even know they took one so she then brought it up on the screen and said the asymmetry is gone not showing on the spot compresstion so why the 6 moth follow up if they found nothing makes no sense to me cant get a hold of no one my doctor on vacation and the hospital i called this morning left a voicemail i had the additional testing yesterday i would of like the doctor to explain what overlapping tissue is? and why 6 moths if nothing was found im so confused and Thank you for replying Keep the Faith Bless You

    sable, "overlapping tissue" can be something as simple as a fold in your breast as it lays between the mammo plates. When an asymmetry appears, a spot compression sort of magnifies the area so they can see it better, it can clear up any issues like "overlapping tissue" when the spot compression shows "nothing" to be concerned about. I think you should 1) get a copy of your written report. that might explain why there is 6 month follow up recommended and then 2) if you still have questions, follow up with the radiologist when he/she is available (not an emergency, just follow up consultation) so you can understand the process better. It may be the imaging center's protocol to re-image women who've had an asymmetry, even when that has been cleared by spot compression. You would be able to better understand his reasoning from either the report or an in-person consultation. Good luck!

    I got my report of breast compression and ultrasound I was trying to post the report here if anyone can help (it told me I cant post links at this time but im not understanding what this means (( In the 9;00 axis 3cm from nipple there is an oval circumscribed benign-appearing mass with posterior enhancement measuring 8x5x8 MM this likely represents a complicated cyst and corresponds to the mammographic asymmetry)) (Breast compostion- the breast are heterogeneously dense -The 7 MM left breast asymmetry in the mid third depth, inner breast persists on spot compression Birad 3 probably benign 6 moth follow up recommended to assess for stability ( is the different between complex cyst and complicated cyst if anyone can help me with what this means appreciate it

    that is a thread on how to read your imaging report. The important passage, as it pertains to your report, is this, both oval and circumscribed are "good" descriptors, which is probably part of the reason they believe your mass appears b9. A BIRADS 3 score routinely recommends 6 month follow up to insure the area is stable, so that is consistent with the descriptors and recommendation.     Basically, there are 3 types: simple (which is easy to distinguish on us, and is fluid filled), complicated (contain some debris or texture inside the well-defined cystic structure - the recommendation is usually 6 month follow up) and complex (which is sometimes called complex cystic mass or solid and cystic mass; so it isn't confused with complicated cyst - the recommendation is typically biopsy).     Thank you so much MTwomen you was a big help I was just left in the dark my ob/gyn is on vacation for 2 weeks and I was just scared and nervous not knowing what all this meant on the report so the oval and circumscribed what do you mean (good Descriptors) my concern is are these finding I should be concerned? and complicated cysts is that bad? I appreciate u explaining to me MTwomen

    sable, as discussed in the link I provided, "oval" and "circumscribed" are both GOOD terms (meaning not associated with malignancy) so things you shouldn't be concerned about. Complicated cyst is, again, NOT bad. It is a typical recommendation for a complicated cyst to be imaged again in 6 months, with the goal of making sure it is stable (not changing). So that recommendation that you got, fits the diagnostic impression of a complicated cyst - which is typically considered b9.

    Hello I just have1 more question called my doctors office this morning and the girl that answers the phone not a nurse said the report are here and dr will be back from vacation Monday and he will tell you what to do next she said dr might what you to see a breast dr don't know why nothing suspicious just additional testing shows the 7MM asymmetry is the beign complicated cyst do you think I should see a breast dr? Or just stick with my 6 month follow up their is nothing suspicious? the left spot compression and left US shows braid 3 probably benign so the report said 6 moth follow up just speaking to the girl NOT A NURSE that answers the phone at my drs office looked at my report and said the drs will view it Monday and might what me to see a breast doctor I told her the report said 6 months follow up so should I see a breast doctor? or just stick to my 6 month follow up?

    Okay, Sable, I'm going to recommend that you 1) breathe a sigh of relief as it sounds as if you have a BIRADS 3 score on a (most likely) b9 cyst. Yay!!! and 2) that you speak to the doctor on Monday before making any decisions. I'm a bit appalled that the "girl" on the phone (not even a nurse!) gave you not only her interpretation of your report but suggested what the doctor might want you to do??!!! I encourage you to let your doctor know this info, as I'm quite certain he would NOT want her doing that.

    oh I will let the doctor know my daughter told me when she seen me get upset this morning about the girl answering the phone for my dr took my report and said the sr can speak to u on Monday she as my report and said the sr will let u know if he what me to see a breast doctor when my additional report say 6 months follow up then I don't think I need to see a breast dr my report work say biopsy or see a breast dr in sorry I know a lot of women have it worst then me and believe me I feel for all of you but don't think I need a girl that answers the phone to tell me the dr will probably what u to see a breast dr which I think isn't needed I what to do my 6 month follow up like my test report results say 6 months folllow up don't need a breast dr Bless all of uou

    And my dr is always getting bnasty and rude with me when u ask question and I have been going to him for over 25 tears

    Hi, I have had a call back due to overlapping tissue...and that is all that it was......the regular mammo can't squish the boob enough so they use the spot mammogram that squishes more. With mine, it squished the overlapping tissue and that's all that it was, regular tissue.

    This is common.


    They do this to be more vigilant.

    With 3-D mammograms this type of stuff is now eliminated as they can zoom through all the layers much easier.
