Question re: oophorectomy and insurance

Done with chemo and finishing up rads on Sept 7th. Ready for hormonals. I'm pre menopausal but I want to go on AI's with ovarian suppression and my oncologist recommended same. I had my first Zoladex shot to suppress ovaries two weeks ago and my MO is testing my estrogen levels this week and if low I'll start the AI's. I'm meeting with my gyn tomorrow to discuss oophorectomy so I don't have to get the shots. Has anyone had issues with their insurance company not covering the oophorectomy? I'm wondering if I'm going to have a fight onmy hands as I'm

opting to do it. My insurance has been great so far and have had zero issues and would like to get the ovaries removed asap and before the new year starts and I'm back into my deductible. Just wondering others experiences with this and insurance. Thanks so much.

I had one because I was having uterine issues w Tamoxifen and wanted to move to an AI. No insurance issues at all. As it ended up I could not do the AI and I went back to T, then later had a hysterectomy. Wish I had done that years ago. The ooph, not so much. Even at 55 instant menopause was/is tough. If I were you I would try OS for a while to make sure that is the right choice for you. Ooph has a lot of other health implications. Unless you are Brca+ ovarian cancer is very rare. Just my opinion. Best wishes with whatever you decide.

I had one this year for same reason, insurance totally covered it. Best thing I ever did. No where near menopause, but age appropriate for menopause. Did not want 2 years of shots. I was going to take AI, but I ended up with a bit of osteopenia in hips, so I take Tamoxifen. I would suggest having them take your uterus as well, because that will give you a great shot at taking Tamoxifen without any uterine issues. I take Tamoxifen now, and am doing really, really good.

I had no issues with insurance and had my oopherectomy at the same time as my DIEP reconstruction. But my BS recommended it because of family history of cancer, although no ovarian cancer history.

    Hi!

I can't see why insurance wouldn't pay for an ooph. Frankly, it's probably cheaper than getting those monthly shots until you hit menopause on your own. I've been on Zoladex for over two years, and I recently talked to my caseworker from the insurance company about an ooph. She was all in favor of it.

    Good luck!

HI there -- I didn't have any issues with insurance. It was completely covered! Good luck to you.

No problems with insurance for ooph. Couldn't imagaine going to office every 28 days for a shot. Chemo put me in menopause instantly, so I had already been aware of that issue.
