these days are going by at a snails pace. I really just want to know what's in store and be able to plan accordingly. Also vacation starts Saturday and that seems to be a year away right now!

also wanted to ask if anyone knew how long after biopsy I have to wait to swim? I love to swim in hood canal and in pools and will have both options starting 4 days after biopsy (yay for vacation!)

Mojo, I would talk to your provider about that. It is possible for pools, but much more possible for "canals" to be harboring potentially problematic organisms (cryptosporidium or other naturally occurring bacteria like Staph or Strep). Yay for vacation indeed!

I would NOT immerse a fresh wound in any body of water, including your bathtub. That's just asking for an infection. You want that puppy fully healed first.

I wouldn't swim in Hood Canal or any of Puget Sound or tributaries 4 days after a biopsy. Actually not sure I would have gone swimming in Hood Canal over 20 yrs ago when we still lived on Whidbey Island. Too much pollution even back then.

I had my biopsy yesterday. I have a giant hematoma that covers the whole breast and beyond. I'm assuming this is normal? They drew a line around where it started but it's well past that. I'm thinking going home from work and icing may be in order. Pretty sore.

did your provider ask you to call if the area spread? I got a hematoma from my lx, but before it was actually diagnosed a friend (who is a nurse) saw it and was concerned it could be either hematoma or cellulitis, so she marked it with a sharpie so we could track it's growth before I could get into a follow up apt with my surgeon.

I took off the wrap they had around my chest and could see how much further it was beyond the marking. They did the biopsies from the outside by my rib cage and the hematoma goes from there to my breast bone.

So I called the breast health center and they said to ice and stay still for today. I probably shouldn't have gone to work. They said the fact that the far edges are starting to be purple that it should be slowing down.

This is another wonderful factor of being a redhead (or so I'm told) I am always a bleeder.

Glad you followed up with them (and are getting purple :o ) So resting is the order of the day, hope it stops growing and starts healing soon!

uhhh I don't know who came up with Saying it doesn't hurt after the core biopsy. I have large holes where they went in my skin, that core needle was rather large same with the cannulas. I had so much bleeding into my breast after that now that it's no longer red blood I can see under my skin, my entire breast is dark purple and boy is it sore!!! And still very swollen and hard. I must be a wimp

One tip for those having the core biopsy done, make sure your sports bra is tight! The one I had wasn't tight enough (I've lost weight) and I borrowed a friend's today and it helped some with the ache. I think if I would have had proper fit even with the binder they wrapped me in, maybe I wouldn't have had as much bleeding.

I'm having a hard time waiting for results and I don't understand why. I've already been told what to expect. There shouldn't be a surprise yet, here I am trying really hard not to be anxious about the results.

I'm trying to find some logic in how I'm feeling and it's not happening.

well, if it's any consolation, fear isn't rational (or logical). Sometimes we feel fear (or anxiety) in regards to something that is a clear threat - like a charging lion - but many times, the thing that we are frightened of is a perceived threat. You are trying to be logical when the part of your brain that is "freaking out" still perceives (an even slight) chance of a threat. Be gentle with yourself that you are not able to be as nonchalant as you'd like, and I am continuing to hope for b9 results for you SOON!
