Neo finished, lump still there, mri says no malignancy
Hi, anyone ever have this result? I can still feel my lump, not much changed from chemo. My MRI result just posted which says no evidence of malignancy and it was compared to original MRI. I'm confused and waiting for my surgeon to call me back. I'm hesitant to celebrate this. Would love some feedback!!

Most lumps are benign! Why worry?
-
My lump is/was cancer. It was biopsied before chemo.
-
If I'm reading your post correctly, you said it was not malignant.
-
Hi!
What you may have there is essentially a lump of dead cancer cells. So, yes, the MRI could be accurate! You will know for sure after surgery and you get the pathology report from your surgery.
Good luck!

Hi sorry, I found my lump back in April. Had a Mammo, Ultrasound and Mri with biopsy which confirmed cancer. Went through chemo and had another MRI last Friday which is saying no evidence of residual malignancy. I can still feel the lump which is why I am confused. I do understand it could just be dead cells, just wasn't expecting that result since it hasn't shrank.

How can an MRI tell if a lump is malignant? I thought only a path report could confirm malignancy or not.
-
Good point. The report says in the body "previously seen enhancing masses are no longer visualized"
-
Hmm, after neoadjuvant chemo, both my MRI and PET scan did not find any active cancer. The radiologist compared the "before" scans to the "after" scans, and it was clear that the areas of rapid cell division were gone. This was later confirmed by the surgical pathology, which found no active cancer.
-
thanks Elaine. Just curious if your mass was palpable? The thing that's really throwing me off is that I can still feel it.
-
Yep, my lump was palpable. Heck, my oncologist could measure it with a ruler, and used a ruler to keep track of it during chemo. My lump did seem to disappear, but other breast cancer patients have noted that their lumps dissolved more like Swiss cheese and that they still had palpable lumps at the end of chemo.

I did 4DD A/C neoadjuvant. Then 12 weekly Taxol adjuvant. For me , the goal had never been to get a CPR but to get the 'nest' to form a 'lump with good margins' so Surgeon could 'get it' out. Did what was wanted and that will 8 yrs come Oct 21 and still NED. Then did 12 weekly Taxol adjuvant to attack any cells that might have been 'hiding' and missed. Then on to 25 Rads.
We are each so unique and while there can be simarities with DX and TX there is no "One Size Fits All".

could be the tumor bed. mine did not disappear but only residual cells remain in a 2 cm tumor bed
-
I guess I don't know what you all are talking about. My surgeon went in and took the tumor out. Why is there still a "tumor bed?"
-
well my surgeon had the head of radiology take another look and the tumor is still there just not as obvious. He said that my tissue is so dense it's hard to tell what's going on. It's all just confirmed that a bilateral mastectomy is the best thing for me to do.
