hi guys,

My partner (52) was diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma a month ago.

She has already had a lumpectomy with great clear margins 8mm being the smallest. The diagnosis was changed to Ductal with lobular tendencies as the mass of 4.5cm was not detected by mammo or sonar or CT scan! 2 out of 9 lymph nodes had cancer. She is 80% Estrogen and 90% Progesterone but is FISH positive 2.43..

The other result (67 something) can't recall test name is 22% and 33%

Seeing onc next week to discuss options. They are suggesting chemo and rads. She was hoping to not have to do chemo. She is taking many supplements and eating really well to build her body up for the potential onslaught of chemo.

Any comments on the above results welcome. How can I as her partner support her best?

    Welcome to BCO. I am so sorry about your Loved One's diagnosis and what you have been going through.

    It would be best if she stops taking the nutritional supplements unless and until her Doctors approve of her taking them. Anti-oxidants can affect the efficacy of Radiation Treatment. There may be other contraindications for her supplements. Check with her Doctors, OK?

    Be there for her. Do not let her think your caring for her -- through whatever it takes -- has made her a burden to you.

    Sweetdee, so sorry that you are here concerned about your partner's health. There will be many women who will come along and provide you with information and support, but I'll start you out. If I understand what you are reporting correctly, her diagnosis is now IDC ER/PR+ and Her2+ or Triple Positive (Fish refers to a type of testing for the HER2 protein, btw, there is a forum for HER2+ bc). HER2+ bc tends to be more aggressive than HER2- bc and typically means that targeted therapy (like Herceptin or Perjeta) will be recommended. Targeted therapy is done in conjunction with chemo, so that is also a typical recommendation. The NCCN guidelines for a tumor greater than 1cm and lymph node positive call for "Adjuvant endocrine therapy + adjuvant chemotherapy with trastuzumab"

    thanks so much, this is very helpful. I believe these targeted treatments are fabulous and hercepin will be the one she has with chemo. I will go look for the other group of HER 2 pos. Thanks a million!
