My girlfriend was just diagnosed with Stage 2 IDC. She has a 2cm "mass". I am not sure exactly what that means and I have to admit I have been all over "Dr. Google" searching for something to give me the all around answer which I know I (we) shouldn't do, and I am becoming more and more anxious the more I read

We have her appointment with the surgeon tomorrow morning. We are together for life and I plan on being by her side through the entire process. I am prepared to be the other set of eyes tomorrow with the questions and concerns that she forgets to ask (I have read from similar discussions).

Besides myself, she has an amazing group of supporters, some of which have been through this and have been a huge support for her.

I guess what I am asking for is what to expect tomorrow morning and how can best support her.

I'm confused. She's already diagnosed as stage 2 BEFORE surgery??  Staging usually comes AFTER they get the tumor out. Could it be that her tumor was GRADE 2?

At any rate, about the appt tomorrow:  I'm glad you're going with your GF.  It's always a good thing to have a second set of eyes and ears in the surgeons office. Take a pad of paper and write down questions that you have. Also, take notes during the appt.  Ask if the tumor will be sent for Oncotype, a test that helps determine the likelihood of  recurrence.  It's only done on HER2 negative tumors, I believe.

I hope the appt goes well and you can get some answers.

    Frank,

It's awesome that you are being so supportive. She is going to need that and you will have an important role.

The first appt I had with the surgeon was kind of general. Do you know the biology of her tumor? That will dictate the direction you go with treatment.

There is a checklist somewhere on the site that the Moderators put together that is called something like "Questions for your Surgeon". That would be helpful to bring witj you or at least look at beforehand.
