Pain worsening
Hi! I am 32 yrs old. Bare with my long post please. I have had a definite lump behind my nipple for at least 8 months that I've been aware of. I was sent for a mammogram and ultrasound and told it was probably benign and to come back for ultrasound in 6 months. So I waited and just received the results of the second ultrasound and it was the same, probably benign and come back in 6 months, lump is stable and has not grown, but has not shrunk. My doctor is sending me to a surgeon for a second opinion. So here's the thing: I found a smaller lump near the original lump. Most importantly, the lump is growing more steadily painful. I feel a stinging/ electric type pain right on the lump daily. The pain sometimes radiates to my armpit. It's hurting off and on as I type this. It has hurt at night where I've gotten up to take Ibuprofen. It bearable, but definitely pain. Also, I live in Florida and it's August right now and I have two little boys, and I've noticed that when we are outside in the heat that the lump begins to hurt very very steadily and doesn't let up until I go inside where it's cooler. Has anyone else experienced this??? I have a wonderfully devoted husband and two little ones and this has taken me aback more than anything I've experienced before. Everyone is telling me that it's probably a cyst that needs to come out or scar tissue from mastitis when I breastfed, but I feel like something more is going on here because of the steady increase in pain. I can't wait for the surgeon appt which I am waiting for it to be scheduled.

Dear Trevell,
We are sorry for your discomfort but so glad that you reached out. It seems that the sooner you can get an appointment with the surgeon the betters as to find a reason for the discomfort, a possible solution and some peace of mind. Breast changes tend to be worrisome, especially when you are experiencing pain because it is then more difficult to distract yourself. From your post your own doctor is sending you to a surgeon for a second opinion about the initial lump.Is it possible that he/she doesn't even know about this newer second lump and the pain it is causing you? Is it possible for you to advocate for a quicker appointment? Again we are not saying any of this because your described symptoms are alarming but rather because you are having discomfort and worry. There may be an easy solution. Keep us posted on what you learn.

Thank you for responding! I have an appointment with the surgeon for next Friday (Sept. 1) first thing in the morning. And that's the appt they gave me. Even that was alarming to me considering the kind woman I spoke with told me that the doctor books out pretty far ahead. Anyway, my concern now is whether or not they will give me an order for a biopsy, which is what I want. I've read where some women withhold that they feel pain on the lump, but I don't think I can do that considering that the pain is growing more and more steady, as opposed to every now and again, like it used to be.
