Bracing myself for the worst!

edited April 2021 in Not Diagnosed But Worried

I have my mammo and consult with breast surgeon scheduled for this Friday. Was diagnosed with ALH in left breast April of 2013 with excisional biopsy after microcalcifications seen on diagnostic mammo. Have had six month follow ups since then except for I missed my last one in November 2016. So here I am after a gap of 13 months and a month ago noticed that my left nipple was slightly retracting. On self examination, I found a movable lump about 1.5 cm or so. Noticed the changes a month ago but was about to go on family vacation so decided to wait till after we come back. So here I am after four weeks of discovering my symptoms, having had the time to think about and read about nipple inversion and lumps and the fact that I was already diagnosed with ALH, I am bracing myself for the worst news. As the time comes close my level of anxiety is through the roof. Since I'm a big hypochondriac, my family thinks this is just another one of my episodes. They stay away from google and definitely haven't done any research on what my symptoms are pointing to. Need positive thoughts and vibes from all the great ladies here.

Hi Scaredandworried. I am in a similar spot as you. My nipple is starting to flatten and it is very itchy. I also have a lump under my nipple. Freaky stuff! Waiting for my doctor's office to open tomorrow so I can make an appointment!

Good luck and good vibes to you.

kittiev my symptons are very similar to mine, itchiness, flat nipple and sinks in completely when I raise my arms. there is also a small lump underneath. waiting for an MRI next month. scaredandworried try not to google I had to stop doing it because it was driving me crazy with anxiety. like you I have a lot of health anxiety, I try to pass the time cooking, cleaning the house, or watching a comedy show but it is really hard not to think the worst. I hope you get benign results and can put your mind at ease. sending tons of good vibes your way

Hi KittieV and txbluebonnet, I wanted to give you an update in the hopes that it will give you reason to stay positive. I had my 3D mammo and ultrasound today. Was told that my mammo has not changed from 2013 when my microcalcifications led to an Atypical Lobular Hyperplasia diagnosis. They said they're putting me on an annual vs. 6 month followup as my calcifications have now been stable since then. For the lump I was feeling in my left breast (the same one where I felt my nipple was changing), there is a cyst. It showed clearly on the ultrasound and the doctor said to come back in a year to follow up. My doctor happens to take pictures as in actual pictures of me each time I go to him. He compared my nipples to what they were last year and the year before and they have not changed since then (although in my mind I thought they had). He did tell me that this very well could be due to aging and the fact that I had surgery on the same breast in 2013. I'm taking a big sigh of relief and wish that both of you and everyone else gets good news. I am extremely thankful to everyone on this forum!

Scaredandworried, that is great news! I go see my doctor on Monday and hopefully he will send me for tests to just rule out cancer even if he thinks it is not.

Hoping you get good results Bluebonnet. I add myself to the list of lots of symptoms with benign causes. Breast pain, even some dimpling. I had a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound this month, and nothing was found at all. In fact I learned my breasts are mostly fatty, giving me more confidence in that theres nothing wrong. I also had some itching. Sometimes it can be hormones, or breast changes due to age. I was very worried but its not always BC. Hope you get great results as well 🙏
