Need of radiation.Is it safe to have radiation with implant in?

I found a lump in my reconstructed breast with implant after a MX. I am waiting for tests results. If cancer is back, I guess I might need to have the lump removed and radiation therapy (I didn't have radiation therapy initially). Has anyone been in this situation? 1) Did you have radiation with implant in? with expander fully filled in? Any issues with it? 2) Did you have to have implant/expander removed before having radiation therapy? 3) Could you have implant in after rads? Any issues? What are the risks of having an implant after radiation? Thanks

    I was told by my plastic surgeon no radiation with implants in but ok with expanders. I am halfway through radiation currently and I have fully expanded tissue expanders in. No issues so far at all. Hope it continues. Maybe someone a little further out post radiation can assist more. My plastic surgeon also said we'll have to wait 4-6 months after rads completed to do the exchange. He said he always airs on the side of caution so it will probably be closer to six months.

    Hi Rosa, I had radiation with implants over three years ago, some places prefer to do it this way and it is not uncommon at all. However, I think your medical team should evaluate your lump first, it might be something totally benign like scar tissue. I really hope it is

    I am seeing my P.S. Tomorrow. I am scheduled for a lumpectomy next month followed by radiation. I can let you know what he says. Does anyone know if the PS removes the implant and places the expander during the lumpectomy or is that a separate surgery? I

    I am currently getting radiation with implants. The RO and PS said it was not a problem. I have pre pectoral implants ifthat matters.
