What can a shadow on an X-ray be, besides cancer?
I think I originally posted this question in the wrong forum, so I'm reposting it here... ihad triple positive BC 6 years ago, with bilateral mastectomy, chemo & herceptin.... I just had a chest X-ray as part of pre-op testing for an unrelated issue and it showed a "shadow" on my right side (the cancer side), high up near clavicle.... my primary is sending me for a CT scan next week, and said not to worry (yea right, I'm freaking out)..... what could it be besides cancer? Scar tissue from where my port used to be? A lymph node?.... I feel physically sick just thinking about this... has anyone ever heard of something like this that wasn't cancer? Thank you for any replies.

It could very well be scar tissue from where the port used to be. Besides sending you for a CT scan, what else did your primary care doctor say? I would hope, at the very least, that possible scenarios were discussed so as to ease your worry.

thanks... primary said it could scar tissue or a lymph node.... I don't feel anything if I poke around

laurie, I am a nurse practitioner and have seen lots of "shadows" on chest xrays that turn out to be nothing....

tpralph, have you seen it turn out to be nothing in someone who has a history of breast cancer
