I got the dreaded call from my BS today. She had the results of my fine needle biopsy but not the core biopsy. It should be ready next week. So what I know is: I have an approx 6-7mm tumor in my left breast at the 4 o'clock position. It is most likely IDC. I wont know receptors and grade until I have the core biopsy results. My BS seems to think I am most likely a stage 1. I am scheduled for an EKG, blood work and MRI next Wed. She said is looking at a lumpectomy around Labor Day. I am so worried that it has spread. Does this happen often with such a small tumor?

Teach70, sorry for you DX. I don't know the answer to your question. Maybe you can ask the BS...? You probably won't know anything for sure about whether it has spread, until they do the lumpectomy, at which time she will probably do a sentinel node biopsy. They will look at the lymph nodes when they do surgery to see if they detect any malignant cells in them. It sounds like your medical team is on it! Best wishes:)

    Hi Teach70,

Sorry you are here, but welcome. Won't know for sure until after surgery and pathology comes in, but it is small and she feels its a grade 1 so good signs so far. I just went through that myself this month. Didn't know for sure until surgery, when I woke up I was told the surgeon said the sentinel nodes were clean. You'll have a better idea of things once you get the report from the core biopsy. Hang in there and let us know.
