First Mammogram Post BC
I went for my first mammogram this past Tuesday since being diagnosed with IDC in August 2016. I was pretty nervous and left feeling a bad vibe from the technician i.e she didn't make eye contact afterwards and wished me good luck as I left. This afternoon, I get a call from the hospital booking me in for another mammogram and ultrasound. I'm totally freaking out! The person calling to book this has no clue that I've even had BC, asking if it's my first mammogram. I tell her the right side would look different when compared to my last mammogram due to rads. Then, she tells me that it's my left side that has "changes:" I'm even more freaked out now. The appointment to go back is not til the 28th. It will be a long 2 1/2 weeks. I'm thinking of all that I went through this past year and I don't if I can do it again.
Anyone else have this happen?

ugh sorry you're going through this. can you have your Oncologist call and get you in sooner. That seems a long way to wait. Perhaps a waiting list if someone cancels? Can you go to another Mammo facility? I am surprised you cant get in somewhere in a day or two.
Wishing you the best, if you cant get in sooner try to do something fun, that you like to distract yourself and keep busy. Yoga, massage, movies.. anything. Praying you are fine and that they're being cautious.

Hi bravepoint I went through something similar recently and had a pretty good meltdown thinking I might be facing more treatment. Everything turned out ok but I had a callback for a diagnostic mammo and then a week or so later a biopsy. You might want to ask for a copy of the radiologist report to understand what "changes" they are wanting more info on. It may be reassuring. Also I agree with Bevin that you should try to push for a quicker appointment through a cancellation. It is cruel to have you wait and worry so long. I will say with your history I expect they are being extra cautious and diligent with anything that seems different. I understand now that it is part of the price for a lumpectomy and that it won't be unusual to have callbacks and maybe even biopsies as we go along.
Hang in there.

Thanks, Bevin and Brigid. I am going to ask my GP if she can get me in at another hospital sooner. The waiting is awful.

Definitely call around to get in elsewhere sooner. Let the site know you are doing that. They may suddenly find an opening for you. I was planning to go elsewhere when my surgeon could not get me in for 6 weeks. They magically found me an opening much sooner
