HELP GETTING AN MRI APPROVED FOR DETECTING SILICONE LEAKS!!!!

Hello,

I am super frustrated. I am a survivor and I had silicone implants put in. One was put in 6 1//2 years ago on one side and 3 1/2 years ago on the other side.

I had medicare supplement plan and they approved putting these implants in. However I was told to monitor for leaks you are to do an MRI every three years and then two years after that.

My plastic surgeon requested the MRI twice and it has been denied twice. I have the right to appeal. Medicare does not follow FDA guidelines on monitoring for leaks. They will not approve the MRI unless you suspect leaks. However with silicone they are silent leaks and can not be determined without the MRI.

Anyone out there have any experience in this??? Anyone have silicone implants that are over 6 years old?

I don't know now if I can get them taken out or what to do with them. The MRI is so expensive I can not keep up with the expense of maintenance.

    I have not heard of such frequent MRI monitoring for leaks. Most often, I have heard MRI's are suggested at 10 years.I have had my implants for 6 years with no leak screening and my doc thinks that's fine, and I do too. I have cohesive gel implants, and although anything can happen, leaks are pretty unlikely.

    just googled around a bit and see what you mean about the 2-3 year MRI. I hope others weigh in as I have not heard of such frequent monitoring
