Waiting for biopsy result and freaking out

    Hi Everyone,

I'm 27 years old. I found a lump in my right breast beginning of June. It took a long time to get appointments and then referrals and further appointments. I had an ultrasound and a biopsy on Tuesday, 18 July. I'm getting my results on 28 July.

The ultrasound showed that I have cysts in my left breast and a lump in my right breast. The lump can be moved around and there are no changes to my breasts. I also have swollen lymph nodes in my right armpit. I can't feel this at all but it showed up during the ultrasound. This was also biopsied. I know I won't find an answer online, but I can't stop myself from reading articles and it freaks me out how many times these two are signs of breast cancer.

I received a copy of the letter that was sent to my GP from the hospital. It said that the lump was a 2.4 cm area of possible fibroadenomatoid change U3, and that there were a few lymph nodes with thickened cortices in the right axilla.

I was pretty optimistic before but somehow this letter made me worry so much. :(

    Hi Niki,

I cannot give you any further information about your symptoms, but I can tell you that you shouldn't let articles affect you so negatively. I understand why you are researching- I am too, but we tend to make assumptions about details without really understanding the context. For me, I got antsy because just about every BC diagram and illustration I found online illustrated a tumor in the exact same place as my lump (Upper Outer quadrant) and pretty much the same size and shape that I visualize mine to be. Yesterday I would have sworn it was an OMEN! In reality, this is probably where most lumps (cancer and B9) show up due to the structure of the breast itself.

I am trying to stay busier with stuff I need to do, but I know I will spend an inordinate amount of time researching. It is good to get the facts and read accounts from survivors, but try not to get discouraged by the symptoms. I know that is easier said than done, but I figured I would let you know that we all get a little crazy and paranoid when we don't have definitive answers. I hope your biopsy comes back B9! Maybe you can find something fun to do, something that requires your concentration.

    Best wishes,

    Pam

Niki_K - Ten days seems like a long time to wait for biopsy results. No wonder you're freaking out!

Try to remember that most biopsies are benign. There can be other reasons for enlarged lymph nodes (infection), too. I hope all is well in your case.

    Hey Pam,

Thank you for your message. :) I know it's crazy how our minds can affect our bodies.

When I feel really worried I also start to feel random pain which makes me more worried... When I manage to calm myself down everything is gone and I feel perfectly fine.

I don't really have anyone as a support system around me so that's also not helping. :/ But I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I hope you'll receive some good news soon!!

    Hi NotVeryBrave

I agree... 2 weeks is just way to long, I was hoping I would get the result in 2-3 days max. Just gives me too much time to think.

I'm trying to stay optimistic but it's really hard sometimes.

Soo just got a voicemail from the hospital saying that they will not receive my results this week, so they will give me a call next Wednesday.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry.. Another whole week of waiting!!!

oh Niki! I would be upset about that too! You have people praying for and sending healing vibes to you. I recommend binge watching something funny like Key and Peel- Obama's anger translator is a great distraction!

Waiting is the worst part! You may want to ask your family doctor for a prescription to help calm you while you wait. I got a prescription for Clonazepam when I started down this road. I have only taken it a few times but when the anxiety takes over it can really help. There is no shame in using meds like this during a time like this. Sendinggood vibes. *Try* to have a fun/busy weekend. See friends. Have good food. Remember to breathe. We will all be praying for you.

Hi I just came from my Dr's office The result of my biopsy was that there were cells that looked abnormal. So yes he said it is cancer. So he is sending me to see a surgeon to talk about what he thinks is best to do. I am so glad to have found this site. So much info on this subject. Quite a relief to find it.

    Hi KathrynMaclean!

So sorry that you've needed to find us. I think it's always a shock when someone starts talking about "your cancer." (My reaction was something like, I'm not going to claim cancer...take it back! If only we could...)

At any rate, since you've been diagnosed, but are just starting the process, you might want to start your own thread on the "Just Diagnosed" board--perhaps just copy your post from this thread? Maybe even add a bit more about yourself. For instance, you say "Winchester" as where you are, but there are Winchesters all over the place: UK, NZ, US (Calif, Virginia & Mass) as examples. And if they gave you any more about the pathology report?

My only suggestion would be don't name it "just diagnosed"...there are too many threads will similar names. Maybe "Diagnosed in Winchester ____"?

Sorry to see you here, but glad you've found us!

Kathryn, when you say "cells that looked abnormal" that doesn't necessarily imply malignant. For example, ADH and ALH would be considered abnormal, but not cancer. Did they tell you that the cells were cancerous? Sending you light and ((hugs))

    Hi Niki,

I am in the same boat. Not much older than you, had a biopsy on a lump and waiting for results. Try to do everything in your power not to Google your symptoms. I kept doing this and it just freaked me out so much. I forced myself to stop. Try to relax and keep telling yourself you don't have a reason yet to worry! You aren't alone. I hope everything turns out okay for you :)

    Hi Katy278

Thank you for your message and well wishes.

The results came back as benign, it's fibroadenoma. Apparently the swollen lymph nodes in the armpit are also totally normal and not related.

Such a relief!! I couldn't even sleep in the final days before I got the result, because obviously you want to stay positive and hopeful but you also kind of have to accept the possibility of bad news. It took almost exactly 2 months to get to this point when I can finally relax.

Just wanted to write an update because I know it calmed me down a lot when I read that people with similar symptoms got good news at the end!

I hope you you'll receive good news soon if you haven't already!!! :):)
