Nodule Found on Screening Mammo
Hello,
I am 41 years old and recently had my second mammogram (July 18). On Friday, the screening clinic called to say that they found an abnormality in my right breast that wasn't present last year...in all honesty, I don't remember much of what she said as I was shocked when I heard who was calling. She scheduled me in for a diagnostic mammo for Tuesday morning (2 business days later). When I got home, there was a message from my doctor's office saying they had received a fax and going into a bit more detail, saying that it was one "nodule" that was found.
The local screening unit is currently being repaired at my local hospital (until the new year) and the mobile unit was on the road as well. I ended up travelling 2 hours to the nearest unit to get my yearly exam (I was given the option to wait until after the new year to go to my local unit). I am thankful I did travel now, even though family thought I was nuts
Hopefully the diagnostic imagining goes well tomorrow morning, I am hoping that it is common to get an appointment so quickly and that is not a sign that things are bad.

Welcome to BCO capergirl, although I am sorry that you're here with breast health concerns. While call backs are not uncommon, we do know how worrisome it can be for "something" to be found on imaging. Do follow up, but try not to get too worried, as the vast majority of "nodules" and "lumps" turn out to be b9. Good luck and good job for driving the extra distance to get your yearly imaging done!

Good Luck with the next mammogram. Remember, as MT already said, a nodule found does not mean it will be cancer. I personally had quite a few call backs and a biopsy over the years....on the non cancerous breast! How weird is that? So hopefully yours will turn out to be nothing with the better look

Finished diagnostic mammogram a short time ago and think it is good.
Had new scans done, got dressed and then had to get undressed when the radiologist wanted some more done
I was able to leave after that and would get the results within 7 days, so I assuming that everything is okay. I could see my previous scans and the spot they were concerned with was clearly visible, it looked like an oval, not quite smooth but didn't look too bad to my untrained eyes.

Hello again, I received a call from the breast screening program again last evening (on my way home from a quick trip to the US) for an Ultrasound this morning. I am assuming the diagnostic mammogram was still unclear. I had the ultrasound this morning, was told to redress and wait. Then had to undress again for a second scan with the tech and radiologist. I have an appointment with my doctor in 4 days, so I hope to get an update on what occurred today. Still have no idea what my birads score is - or if that is evaluated after the ultrasound to account for all of the test completed to date.??
ETA: I forgot to add a big thank you to the previous posters for the information they provided. This site has been very helpful to those who are concerned/waiting for results!

capergirl, if you ask for a copy of the written report, it should include a BIRADS score. I don't know the procedure at your imaging center, but they may have your doctor provide that info at your appointment? Please let us know if you have additional questions and good luck for b9 results!
