Greetings from Galway, Ireland. Thank you for letting me join this forum. I logged onto the Irish Cancer Society but the forum is very quiet. I was diagnosed with Triple Negative, IDC in May17, had surgery within the recommended time frame of 6 weeks and will begin my chemo on 14th Aug17. My chemo regime is: AC 4 doses 2 weekly followed by Taxol weekly for 12 weeks. I would appreciate any feedback on the side effects of this combination of chemo.

I have some friends also recovering from breast cancer but none of them have the triple negative. I have checked out wigs...not sure to purchase real hair or synthetic and have an app tomorrow. I think the synthetic is lighter and less work involved with having to blow dry it etc. Would appreciate any input, Many thanks. Galway2017

Hello Galway 2017, this is my first post. I was just recently diagnosed with Triple negative bc three weeks ago. I am currently looking for a Dr and Oncologist. I wish that I could be more helpful to you but I'm a newbie. My family are from Kells and Courtmacsherry. (Still live there). I live with my family here in the USA. I'm hoping that you get some answers to your questions on this forum. Good luck to you.

Than you Lancashire for your reply, my first reply so delighted to hear from you. It is my first time 'posting' so not tech savy. I am ahead of you in that I am starting my Chemo Mon 14th August. I wish you every success on your journey and treatment. 'What doesn't break us will make us'. I see you have Irish roots! Hopefully we will be in a better space to celebrate St Patricks Day 2018. Be kind to yourself and wishing you all the best. Galway 2017

    Hi Galway2017,

I'm in Dublin, and am going to be starting the same chemo regime as you the week after next, I'm very concerned about side effects too. All the unknowns! Hopefully we will get through with minimal side affects and come through the other side.

My cancer is her2+ and that's why I've to do chemo and rads.

Hi Galway! I don't have triple negative, but I did go through the AC + Taxol treatment. My AC was every 3 weeks (not 2 like you). I would have preferred every 2 weeks, if anyone had given me the choice. In general, the AC is a bit tougher than the Taxol, but they are both quite do-able and I'm glad to have gone through it. I'm happy to answer any specific questions you may have (i.e. I recommend synthetic wigs ... they are lighter and keep their style better).

There is a ton of information about these treatments in the chemotherapy forum .... I recommend that you join the August 2017 chemo group. That's what I did when I started chemo, and it was wonderful to go through the process with other people. Such a great source of information and support!

I did chemo from Oct/2016 to March/2017, then had a month of daily radiation in May/June. My hair has grown back (ok, it's still pretty short, but I actually love it!) and I feel fine. I wish you all the best, and will be thinking of you on Monday.
