Hi, I posted a few weeks ago about bleeding from my right breast, but it's on it's own time, and will not secrete when pressed at all! I've had a mammogram and ultrasound and both showed no signs of lump or mass. So I saw my surgeon today and he tried excreting again... pretty painfully I might add... and could only get a tiny amount! So he said I could wait two or three weeks and come back to see if he can get a sample then or I could go for a MRI, pending insurance approval.

I'm more confused now than I was before because I still have no clear answers. How has MRI gone for anyone on here? I hear a lot about false positives. But my surgeon needs to know which duct the blood is coming from before he can biopsy it?!?!? Don't really know where to gonfr here!

Sorry you're more confused than ever! MRI are used in specific situations, for example when mammo + us doesn't answer a diagnostic question with sufficient certainty. (or even when a palpable lump isn't "seen" on mammo + us, but is concerning). As far as "false positives", mri are very sensitive (meaning they "see" lots of things other imaging sources don't) but they aren't very specific (meaning that what they "see" isn't necessarily malignant). There are contrast agents that help with that differentiation, in that the pattern of uptake and washout of the dye in the area of suspicion, can be more similar to a b9 or a malignant process. The definitive answer comes from biopsy, however, not imaging. So your surgeon needs to "see" the area before he can sample it.

thank you so much MTwoman! I guess the waiting and paying more co pays and for more tests and everything it entails just is getting to me. My husband seems to think I should wait it out a few weeks to see if we can excrete anything, but I think we should go ahead with MRI. I just wish my dang nipple would cooperate and give my doc something for sample! It's just not happening!!! 🙄🙄
