Tamoxifen?

Hi everyone!

I had IDC in my left breast, three spots; 5 mm, 3 mm and 2 mm. I am er and pr + and her2-. I had a bmx on June 20th and all 7 nodes they took out were clear.

Met with the mo on Thursday. He mildly recommended tamoxifen, however I take Wellbutrin which doesn't mix well with tamoxifen. Cancermath puts my recurrence under 4% without tamoxifen and at 2.5 with tamoxifen.

My mo said it doesn't make sense to do oncotype test as he wouldn't recommend chemo in my situation.

My questions are:

1) would you switch anti depressants which have been working to do tamoxifen?

2) would you do ovary suppression to do ai?

Or

3) would you just skip tamoxifen/ai altogether?

Thanks so much for reading and commenting.

Shevi

You can talk with your pharmacist and who ever prescribes your antidepressant. There are new studies, BMJ, Boston Medical Journal, that discuss just how much of an interaction the different SSRI's, SNRI's, have with Tamoxifen.

hi. I think you should have your MO do onco test. I've heard everyone who is early staged ER + should have it done. I was stage 1a and my onco score came back high. My team if DRs said not to worry they doubt it would come back high but it did. So chemo it was for me.

I agree with Hopfull. See if they can do Oncotype, if your risk of recurrence is high, you might want to consider some sort of hormone therapy. It's a more personalized result. It assumes Tamoxifen is being taken, but if your risk of recurrence is height, it would be higher without Tamoxifen

I would want the oncotype test just to know more about the biology of the tumor. Also they give you ER and PR scores which can validate those you already have. Chances are you've met your deductible, if you are in the US, so why not.

I took Effexor while I was on Tamoxifen and I really liked it. I went back to Prozac when I went off T, and I had no trouble switching.

Push for Oncotype testing. YOU want more information about your disease even if your doctor doesn't. (Bet he'd order it if it were for his wife or daughter.)

I'm in a similar boat with Tamox. and options. Right now doing Tamoxifen -- but going to discuss if ovarian suppression has any benefits in my case. I have bone issues, so feel I will be advised to stay on Tamox. Not sure about Lupron, etc., to further combat estrogen. But all good questions for your MO, that's for sure.
