Hello to all,

my sister just got diagnosed with Breast Cancer two weeks ago and already operated. She is 39. Luckily it is G1, T1 (1,9mm), N0 (they took out the sentinel node) Mx (they didn not check); ER + Prg + Her-.

Even though is is a good prognosis it has been shaking up me and my family.

She has had Hashimoto thyoiditis since she's 19 and seems to get 3, 4 infections every winter, especially this winter. Somehow I find it hard to believe that her immune system doesn't play a role in this even though studies looking at a Hashimoto and cancer link seem inconsitent.

Any thoughts on this?

At this point I find it hard to believe that my sister being sick so often will beat this in the long run – but maybe this is just my fear speaking.

Best and all the best to everyone here

Elisa

    Hi Elisa

It's great that you're informing yourself in order to support your sister. It is okay to be shook up when the diagnosis is still so new. Your sister is lucky to have a supportive family, and a prognosis that looks good.

I don't know much about comorbidities (the simultaneous presence of one or more chronic diseases or conditions in a patient), but maybe someone else will chime in with their experience.

What I do remember from my own experience was that I went through a ton of articles, books and other research to learn more about cancer and how to handle it. You and your sister will likely do something similar. I think there are so many long-term survivors of breast cancer that it is totally justified to be optimistic about our chances.

Good luck to you both, and welcome to this forum.

Dear Eve, thank you so much for your reply! And yes, just like you I've been reading up like crazy, but I'm looking forward to the day when the issue fades a little bit... Yes, my sister is lucky and so am I. Thanks for the little reminder.

I hope you have many people helping you as well!

    Elisa
