Supplement questions re brands/strengths, etc

Options

HI everyone -

I am new to this forum, but have been reading a lot and I guess I am more confused than ever. I am just coming out of my chemo year (I took herceptin) and feeling good. I have always led a pretty healthy lifestyle - with exercise, eating well, etc. One thing I never figueered out was if supplements would really help me or also, would they interfere with anything?

I do take tamoxifen still (although not sure how long as my period never did come back after chemo - I'm 45). What I would like to add are the following:

Vitamin D3 for bone health, turmeric for anti-inflammatory properties, and greens (in a smoothie or whatever) for gut health.

I struggle with what brands/strengths to buy as there is so much out there & so many conflicting schools of thought. I have cleared taking this with my MO, but he says he can't (won't?) really advise on brands/strength. Probably because its not his forte. I wish my cancer center had an integrative approach where possibly there was someone I could talk to about this.

Would love to hear your words of wisdom - thanks!

I'm big on reading labels and choosing supplements with the fewest fillers/other ingredients. I use Sports Research brand turmeric curcumin capsules-suspended in coconut oil. No gluten, no soy, no dairy, no eggs, no peanuts, no yeast, no binders or fillers, no artificial anything and no magnesium stearate. I love this product and order it from Amazon.

My doc has me look on consumerlab.com and do my due diligence research there. It costs to belong but I used it my first year as I was trying to figure out which one brand was best.

Personal experience, for Vit D, i like Isotonix.

I had switched to another brand because isotonic was quite expensive and my vit D level dropped significantly. so i went back on isotonix and my D level went back up again. i don't have time go have my blood test all the time to find a replacement so i just stick to isotonix.

My alternative MO recommends Curcumin with Black Pepper -- that the black pepper is essential to it working. I've read some about it. Using Pure Encapsulations brand for that and my Omega 3.

Basically, this MO recommended: Omega 3, Turmeric/Curcumin, Vit D, Probiotic. VSL#3 for probiotic. Not the easiest to find and a little $. A local independent pharmacy stocks it. I've used various Vit Ds. My level is good, believe it or not. Because I've been taking for a few years. I also take a bone supplement because unfortunately I need it! ;)

    Hope this helps.

Theracurmin has very high absorption. The ability to absorb curcumin is the limiting factor in having it work throughout your body.

Eastcoast, I take turmeric powder with black pepper everyday in my smoothie. I buy it off Amazon and it is Organic. My MO recommends it too. I take Udos 34 billion probiotic made for seniors. (I am 63). I also add Ceylon cinnamon, Morenga leaf powder. I take a calcium, magnesium, zinc combo pill and. Liquid D3 and liquid B complex. My numbers are all good. I also was doing this before DX. Maybe that is why I healed well and quickly.
