Hi everyone! Thanks in advance for reading and for any advice. Just knowing I am not the only person going through this somehow makes it a little better.

A little background- I am 29 and about a year ago felt a little lump on my right breast. I had just moved to Arizona and didn't have an established GP yet, so I made an appt as soon as I could with someone local. After a brief exam, I was told not to worry. That I was too young for it to be anything concerning. Just monitor and come back if it enlarges. So I diligently palpated and measured and obsessed over my new "little friend." Then 3 months ago it changed from a pea size to almond size, and I went to see my current gyno. She got me in for an ultrasound and assured me it would turn out to be a cyst or plugged duct.

So I went in for the ultrasound a couple days later, and could tell from the tech's face this was not a little cyst at all. Sure enough the radiologist comes in to tell me the mass is very irregular and highly vascular. Got a biopsy scheduled 48 hrs later. Then came the agonizing waiting. Finally results came back, pathologist called it somewhere in the middle between ADH and DCIS but high risk. I do have family history of BC and I am waiting for genetic testing.

I am supposed to be hearing back from a surgeon tomorrow. An oh, did I mention I just found a mass on my other breast as well?

Thanks for reading.

So sorry you find yourself here. The good news is you convinced a doctor to investigate and found it early.

    Best of wishes to you.

I'm so sorry. It must be extra hard when you are young. It sounds like doctors often dismiss concerns in young women.

Please be sure to mention this new area in the other breast to your surgeon. It may be recommended that an MRI be done to rule out anything else going on.

Good luck with the testing and decisions ahead.

mystic88...so sorry you have to be here. However I think you will find the forum both informative and comforting. Just want to add that IMO you should have a MRI. Its the best screening tool for young/dense breasts. Good luck and keep us posted.

mystic, "somewhere in between" ADH and DCIS would not be specific enough for me. You might want to consider getting a second opinion on your pathology from an expert, as the differences in treatment could be different. There is an excellent dcis expert who provides just such consultation/second opinoin services. See the link here: http://breastcancerconsultdr.com/

    Hi mystic88

I live in Arizona too and was just diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma July 5th. Would love to talk to You! I have to wait until August 24th for my double mastectomy and lymph node biopsy. I am so stressed.
