    My heart sank for Sen. McCain when I heard the news this morning. Neighbor of ours lost a relative to brain cancer last year.

    Still praying for those in areas affected by wildfires

    i was shocked as well when i heard about mccann, he has always been a light in the senate

    So i am off chemo for a couple of weeks, next week was meant as off anyway sure hope the tingling in my feet subsides somewhat, bummer and feel crummy that my pal drove me down there for nothing, on the bright side i get to keep my hair for a bit longer

    The heat in the Philly suburbs is brutal......not even the shore is escaping the heat.....only thing good is the ocean temp is 77.......not there, but hoping for this wekeend.......won't know till tomorrow.....if not, I'm inside in the A/C

    ducky, we are in the same boat here where I am. We already hit our day time high before noon in the capital city. Shore line here is in an air quality alert. We are supposed to see 2 more says of this heat an humidity. Been checking on hubby on a regular basis because he has to walk between the two buildings on the college campus he works at to answer trouble calls related to his job. Been asking if he is keeping hydrated when he is at his desk.

    I feel bad for people who have to work outside in this heat.

    90 and intermittent massive storms here. Squirrels & rabbits seem to be lining up two by two—think they’re trying to tell us something? We’re off to Boston tomorrow for the weekend—tomorrow & Sat. should be nice, but Sun. will probably be a “wash” (and “awash”).

    Have two large scratches which are still sorta swollen on my R (at-risk arm) from brushing past our berry canes Mon. evening after getting home from grocery shopping (was still in shorts & T-shirt from the workout beforehand). I washed & disinfected them before putting on Neosporin, but Bob said the redness & swelling (looked like oblong hives) looked like allergic reactions from the sap on the prickly leaves & branches and suggested hydrocortisone & Benadryl creams. Been doing that (ditched the cortisone, per his instructions, once the itching was gone), but healing is super-slow, much slower than from cat scratches. At least no cellulitis. Would have gone to Urgent Care, but I’m getting tired of running to them for every little thing and looking like the hypochondriac I am. Not to mention spending the taxpayers’ money on inflated fees paid to Medicare. I am still shocked by the fact that a small persistently-bleeding laceration on my shin last spring (caused by bumping into a sharp metal corner on a steamer trunk), which was treated with surgical glue and an elastic gauze bandage, resulted in Medicare being billed for $370. (It’s not just that clinic—when I needed a splinter pulled from my R pinky at CVS because I couldn’t see well enough to do it myself, that was a $200 bill as well). I’m not out of pocket one cent, because of my supplemental insurance, but this is just nuts.

    Blowing off my training session—sore back, gut issues, running late to both get ready for our meeting in the w. burbs with our broker tonight (being rush hour and probably a downpour, likely to take 2 hrs just to get there), and finish packing for our Boston trip tom’w morning.

    Sandy, it looks like you guys are sending me a storm later tonight. I will gladly take it as it will be the only relief that we will get until Sunday from the heat. 3 days of 90 or better here and I am trying to stay cool. Still 2 days to go with the heat.

    Molly ..hope you can get relief soon from your ear problem ..Hubby had the fullness ear issue thing happening last year. .drove him insane ..everytime they stopped his prescribed drops it returned ...his was caused by fungus ..specialist put a powder in his ear ( I think it was an anbiotic/ antifungal powder ) , and had use Swimmers Ear drops twice a day .

    No storms last night which means no relief from this blasted heat!!!!! The storms started dying as they got closer to the NY/CT border, dang it!

    uggh Mommy, so sorry to hear! I am SO over summer already! I think it is time to go back to Australia and enjoy Lucy's beautiful winter weather....who wants to join me?

    Me! Australia and Alaska were two places I wanted to visit before kids.... 20 years ago. Promised my oldest that we would take a family trip to Australia when he graduates college.

    Molly, Hope your vertigo ends! I've had a couple of brief bouts.... and it was miserable! My tailbone hurts too, but the doctor told me it's most likely pressure from all of the weight I've gained since chemo. I know that's not your issue though.

    I'm completely on edge and in tears. One of our gates wasn't shut all the way and my husky boy escaped. We are looking everywhere for him.

    Wiley is home!

    About a mile away, a man was walking his 2 dogs at 4am and Wiley joined him on the walk. In fact, Wiley followed him home and spent the day playing with the dogs and swimming in the pool. The man saw one of the many signs we posted and called me. Wiley seemed to have enjoyed himself and is completely unharmed.

    Now I can get back to finalizing vacation plans! We leave Wednesday and will be gone almost 3 weeks! Can't wait to hit the road. I also scheduled a trip to see my Dad and brothers in North Carolina in October!

    what a stinker, he was out partying while you were worrying! Glad everything turned out all right. We had a dog that would come visit us once his parents left for work. We just left them phone messages saying "Clifford came over to play, you can pick him up on your way home." Dogs, lol!

    Lucy, I'd love to go to Australia. Or to join the throngs going to Italy. I was there once, many years ago, and loved it.

    Totally involved in figuring out my mom's care: stage 4 lung cancer--which she doesn't want to treat--and moderate Alzheimers, which is getting worse. Appointment this week with her geriatrician, who is also a palliative care specialist. Hoping for some clarity about the way forward. I am reading Being Mortal by Atul Gawande, which is an astonishing book about the process of aging and, well, dying. It was recommended to me two years ago when I was having chemo and I just couldn't take in the topic then. Now, however, it's enormously helpful.

    ((Hugs)) Rainy! I'll have to check into that book. I had lunch with my mom today. Food was great (and reasonable), but the conversation was strange. I have a strained relationship with my mom due to things that happened while growing up... and even after I was grown. I don't know how much of the strange conversation was due to her age, or alcohol or something else. When I mentioned that my sons and I are going whitewater rafting on the Snake River, she made huge eyes and said I shouldn't do it because it's scary. My first thought was that I've had cancer, surgeries, chemo and rads.... rafting doesn't scare me! LOL

    Iris, ((Hugs)) I remember that strange, uncomfortable tingling that started right before the hair fell out. At one point, all of my skin felt like that.

    Still trying to get ready for the trip. I'm a planner/organizer.... and would really appreciate some help from my 18 and 19 year old boys. Grrrrrr

    I won't be checking in for a while but I'll check in when I get back home!

    Thank you! You guys get it. Reading Being Mortal brings up so many issues from my own BC journey and helps give me clarity for what we might try to put in place for my mom. Her oncologist is very comfortable discussing the scientific aspects of treatment; I think she'd probably be upbeat and lovely if my mom were not cognitively disabled at this point, but she is clearly uncomfortable with the dementia. Fortunately the geriatrician and my mom's PC are much more able to look at the whole patient. I think they're the sort who will talk about how to make the most out of the days she has. My gut says she won't do chemo, and I'm hoping to put in place services that will keep her as independent as possible for as long as possible. Honestly, I think that of the two diseases, in some ways Alzheimers is more cruel than the cancer.

    Poppy, have a WONDERFUL vacation!

    Iris, ditto what Octo said. I wore wigs during chemo, but also hats and scarves. I have some I can send you.

    Well, hubby left today for a week in Chicago. The 17-year-old is singing in the shower. And the storms swept in from the midwest and took the temperature down into the 70s--bliss!
