Radiation after BMX/immediate implant reconstruction

Options

I am 43 have IDC stage 2 grade 2.. Had BMX with 1 positive sentinel node ALND additional 6 nodes removed all negative. Oncotype score 18 indicating no decrease in recurrence with chemo .. Because I'm very ER PR+ my MO is comfortable moving forward with strong hormone therapy and radiation.

I had immediate reconstruction with silicone implants and am wondering what to expect aesthetically to happen to the implant/results from radiation. Has anyone ever had this treatment/ similar situation?

    Hi 4pink101,

I hope you are healthy and enjoying life! I saw your question from a couple of years ago that (unfortunately) wasn't answered. I am in that same situation now. I had a bmx w/ one step silicone reconstruction on June 27th. Did your skin/implants come out of rads ok? How long after surgery did the Drs wait to start rads? Do you have any advice for me?

    Thank you so much!

    Hi Leeen-

Welcome to BCO! We noticed you posted on a fairly older thread, so it's unlikely you'll get a response from the original poster. But you might find some helpful information in our reconstruction forum, in regards to reconstruction and radiation: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/44.

Leeen, I had reconstruction a year before radiation. Radiation was donedue to recurrence. My radiated side is higher, tighter, and harder than my non radiated side. If I wear a sports bra, it evens things out so no one else really notices.
