Just remembered that the pathologist who called to let me know I had BC said part of the mass was IDC and part was DCIS. So on the core biopsy report it says that but doesn't say anything about the ratio of one to the other except that one of the cores said the IDC was "1.2 cm in this material" and the aggregate size of the four cores was 1.4 x .5 x .1.

Ultrasound measured my mass as 1.5 cm x .9 cm x 1.5 cm.

Is there any information that can be mined from this description regarding relative size of the DCIS vs. IDC

Lita, at this point in your diagnosis, when quite a bit of information is coming in, it can be confusing and a bit scary. Someone may come along with a different answer, but what I'd take away from that information is that you have at least 1.2 cm of IDC in one dimension. At this point, although the dcis is present, your IDC will drive your treatment, as whatever they recommend to take care of your IDC will certainly also take care of the DCIS. Do you have the path report from your lx? That should provide you with more information than the core biopsy report.

MTwoman - My surgery is scheduled for this Friday so all I have now is the core report.

    Lita,

The pathology report from your surgery will be definitive. Before surgery, all the doctors can do is to estimate the amount of IDC based on scans and the like. But MT woman is right -- your IDC will drive the proposed treatment options.

Hope you have a successful surgery and recovery!

Oh, sorry! I saw the lx in your sig and neglected to see that it is in the future. So for now, you know that you have 1.2 cm in one directional plane, but you'll know much more after your lx path report comes back. Good luck!
