My mastectomy journey at 19

Hey guys,

I am almost a full day post bilateral nipple-sparing mastectomy with tissue expanders. I also got a sentenial lymph node biopsy on my right hand. The worst is over and I feel so relieved. I was on a pain pump the first few hours and am now on oral Tylenol. The pain on my right hand where the nodes came out is really bad and I cannot lift my arms. Taking it day by day. The nurses are really sweet. Drains are annoying but thankfully not painful. Any tips???? Wordsof encouragement? Would really appreciate it ❤️❤️

Ugh, I remember how annoying my drain was! I later found out that if I'd been more inactive, my drain would have come out more quickly. Instead, I was back in the classroom, the day after my lumpectomy. Soooo.....take it easy, and the drains will come out more quickly!

Best wishes for a painless and relaxing recovery for you!

Hi Chloe - So glad that is behind you. I wish you an uneventful recovery. My doctor had me get a nausea pill called "emend" I think. It was $50 for just one pill but I didn't have trouble with nausea. Be sure to tell the anesthesiologist about your experience and I bet they can help.

Also, be sure to join the July surgery group. Great info there.

Everyday should be a bit better. Sending you a gentle hug from Oklahoma.
