Lori, there is a time for everything....even lurking. Ha! I amsure the lurkers agree
-
Okay Wenchie , my lovey...at least that's not as hot as last time. The linguistics gal hit it on mark. He talks like a regular guy. I'll leave it there. you know of course that's very very hard. But also tells you how much I love you. Kisses.
YAY DS is coming home. Where is DS coming from etc? Not sure I remember hx of DS?
My DS called and said they were coming for my B_day the weekend of the 30th. I was so happy. I want to cook a dinner for us all. Ulterior purpose. I'm trying to get Jamie interested in taking stuff. It's all collectible. I'd hate to see it go to a thrift. Besides I love doing dinners.
Here is a thought I developed over the years 1. a dinner for four is problematic with courses, b/c there is a delay in conversation. 2. a dinner for 6 is perfect b/c all are engaged, even when courses are continuing. 3, a dinner for eight becomes two parties of four no matter what you do.. 4..Greater than 8, it's a holiday, and you put people to work.
The perfect dinner party is 6, Four to talk while both hosts are changing courses. DH and I did, and now Donnie and I can do it. it's like a ballet.

Sensi, wet sand is like concrete. There are multiple recipes on the internet on how to fix a wet phone. A couple of thoughts that I remember is remove the Sim card. LOL----do sim cards exist anymore? Hopefully it was off---don't turn it on. If there is a sim card remove it. If you turn it on while it's wet and there is a Sim card, it will wipe it out. Such a funny statement from a lady that has now cell phone and can't work one.
DS & DH back in the day were trying to figure out what to do when son got his wet. I looked on the net and besides the above it said put it in the oven at ________I think 200 degrees. for x amount of hours. They pooh pooed me. It worked. Anywhooses look on the net and see what is recommended these days. They were in total disrespect that I could come up with a solution. Well Hrmph, neither were net adept. Hahaha
Glad you didn't get hurt, like I said wet sand can feel like concrete when you fall on it.
Continue with fun in the sun

On point Lover! Oh dog, now I should post. Your trip looked fantastic. I was living vicariously through you. You have taught you DD well. Beautiful what she did with the leftover money she found. Be proud momma. How are your parents doing. I'm going to sound like a broken record here, have you talked with your dad about your family's journey out a Viet Nam. I waited too long to find out info on my dad's side of the family and still regret it after 29 years. It will probably be hard on the two of you.
Queenie, enjoy your dance with NED! You deserve it. Congrats on the A in accounting.
Mags, praying you can get a break soon.
Lori, enjoy your visit with you son. Don't overdue things. You want to have fun with your DS and his family, not recovering from getting things in order. They'll understand.
Junie, love the picture of you and Kirby. He's adorable and getting so big.
Sensi, the picture of you and the one of the view are definitely ones to frame. My daughters you the bag of rice trick when their phones get wet.
Shep, hubba, hubba to Sam Elliot. He has the most mischievous eyes. But those pictures for the 4th were just wrong. You did redeem yourself with Sam's pic though. Thank goodness Lover came along to give us the eye candy.
Kids informed us last Monday that we were cooking out for the 4th. Had just been to the grocery store on Sunday but did not buy food for a cook out. It turned out nice. One of my girls did most of the cooking. I just had to make a pasta salad and cut up fruit.
Mommy, police in my district of the city confiscated 9,000 illegal fireworks alone. Must say if was quieter this year than in the past. Not much before or after the 4th which is really unusual. I'd be interested in the total number confiscated for the entire city.
Feline, you and Zills could definitely pass as sisters. So nice that you were able to meet up.
Sas, love what you're doing with the renovations. How is it going with Donnie's nephew? i think it's wonderful you helping me. Hope it is still going well.
Oh what I get for lurking. Looks like I'm writing a thesis. Waving hi to those I missed.
-
Just wish the city I live in would ban all but the fireworks that the city puts on for the 4th. There is very little space between some houses here and I dread the day one of them catches on fire from fireworks.

Got home from my Paris/France trip last Saturday. Paris had a temperature of 97 degrees which was grueling because 90% of restaurants are not air conditioned. Many of the hotels aren't either. The heat was not expected this early ...mainly in August. You get the stink eye when you ask for ice or ice water.
We had some wonderful meals...and I can recommend Uniworld if interested in River cruise. Their customer service was flawless. Bordeaux was rainy. The tour of the French Oak Barrel making was fascinating. I missed quite a few of the tours due to fatigue and of course the Herceptin diarrhea. There are not places to slip into and go to the potty driving in a tour bus without a restroom.
I had left our group and gone into the beautiful Hotel de Bordeaux to the potty. Came back out hurrying to find the group. My hubby was about 30'yards away trying to keep an eye on where the group was going. I missed a small curb and did a flying face plant...in front of many, many people. The worst was a big goose egg on my ankle. Of course, couldn't bear weight....had to get taxi back to ship, wheelchair etc. Refused ambulance...of course...knew it needed ice, ace wrap and elevation. I can tell you the pharmacies do not know what an ace wrap is. They have a very sticky tape (not coban) instead. The people on the boat were wonderful...brought me meals to me in bed....champagne and wine also.
Ankle got me a wheelchair...they take you to the front of the line for global entry, customs and security.
Actually, concerning the lymphedema....since the last reconstruction...my arm quit swelling. Not believable but I'm not questioning it because I don't want to temp fate! I know it will rear its ugly head head again.
The trip was actually too much for me. Thank God I had pain medicine with me for the ankle. My hubby did have a great time and went on the tours I missed with much shoving from me. We had friends on the trip also.
The armed robbery at the Paris Airport Hotel on Saturday was exactly where I stayed and stood waiting for the shuttle only 1 week earlier. 20'people were robbed of their money and belongings and sprayed with tear gas and pepper spray. Glad to be home.

Sassy, I love you too. Donny Sr might talk like a normal guy (I know no one else that talks in circles) LOL Donny Jr sure stuck his hand in a hornets nest...I'll leave it at that also, silly boy LOL
My DS and his family should be here late today or early tomorrow morning! I'm so excited and I just can't hide it! LOL
Gentle healing hugs to All 💜🤗❤️
-
Sas, have you talked to our Phyllo? I've talked to her a few times recently on line...
-
I am glad I don't have to do this for a living.
-
Loverly ~ Jeepers..... that job would truly be the pits! 🙊
-
Beatmom, thank goodness you were spared from the robbery. Scary. I read that it is a common thing in the hotels surrounding the Charles de Gaulle airport.
Kath, I did talk to dad about our journey. Thanks again for the nudging. I am sorry that you didn't get a chance to have the conversation with your dad. I learned two things from my last chat with Dad. I was shocked to hear how evil a particular family was. There was limited space on the boat so Dad didn't tell many people our plan to escape. Right before our trip, the a well to do man came, kneeled down and begged my dad to take his three sons along and that he would pay Dad for helping his sons get out of VN. Dad told the man he didn't have do such thing and that Dad would take care of their boys. A few years later we learned that this man escaped on the same boat with Dad's cousin the cousin's wife, and their daughter. The man had an argument with the cousin. That night, someone pushed both my dad's cousin, his wife, along with another female child into the ocean. Now, this man was supposed to give the money he promised Dad to this cousin. There is no doubt he killed them. Oh the heart of an evil man when he lets money becomes his god.
Will tell you the other thing I learned tomorrow. It's late and I am getting tired. Was out all day in the heat at DD2's swim competition. It was 100 degree in Redding, Ca today. Be back tomorrow
-
Yes Shep, those people are literally in the pits.

Morning, Mommy!
Kath, sorry I was really exhausted last night and couldn't continue. Anyway, when we first set foot on U.S soil a man sent by T----- Foundation picked up our family along with two friends (who had to leave their wives and children behind) of Dad and transported us to a hotel in New York. We were there for a few days and no one came for us. To be honest with you I only remember the good parts....bathing in a nice clean bathtub with good smelling shampoo and soap, trying to quietly jump on a sofa with my siblings and goofing off in the middle of the night because we were jet lagging and couldn't sleep, tasting juicy giant green and black grapes and nectarines or peaches for the first time. As a matter of fact, those were the only food my sister and I remember eating during our stay at the hotel. I learned that the guy who dropped us off at the hotel took off with our luggages. We only had the clothes on our back and pjs Mom packed in the carry-on. No money to buy food. Dad was able to track down the office of the Foundation with the help of (of all people) the maintenance of the hotel. All I could remember about this kind man was he was bigger than Dad and he was of African descendants. My dad and the friend walked several miles to the office and by the time they got there, Dad's friend fainted (right in front of the people they needed to talk to). This friend of my dad whom my siblings and I called uncle had not eaten for a day or two. From that incident we got $50 (a lot of money in '78) to buy food for 4 adults and 5 kids and was picked up the following day to be transferred to the airport for our final destination- Louisiana.
Kath and Eeyore, you both are right. It is a blessing to hear what my dad had to deal with during our journey while trying to find a better life for the family. Thank you

Lover, so glad you are talking with your dad. I have great admiration for your family. The hardships you went through. Yet some pleasant memories for you and your sisters endured through it all.
MammaRay, well said. It is important to write down family history. Thank you for that reminder. I've got to get back to doing my research on family. Glad to see you posting.

Going to start with a story before I do a look back.
The importance is the person I talked to is getting a breast excision next week.
I moved into a house in 1986, neighbors Ted and Nancy were great friends. We moved away in 1992. Nancy never missed a year on sending a birthday card. I then would call her and we would chat. I have been thinking about her for months because her birthday was July 1st. I thought this year I will call her first before her birthday. I screwed up, it's now July 15th. Chit. I looked at her card and tried the numbers. They didn't work. Noticed I had her daughters number. Called it. My friend Nancy was killed in a car accident three months ago. She was in her 90's. Very sad, she was much beloved and has an incredibly family
Oddly in conversation, her daughter is going through a breast workup. She has had the bx. She is having an excision in a week. I brought her here to BCO. I got her to the Torodal, blocks, opioids thread. Then walked her through how to navigate BCO.
She's studying now.
I believe her mom sent her to me. Why? I have been looking at Nancy's last b card for months. Wish I knew exactly when I got the message. but today, I realized again I screwed up and didn't call Nancy on her July 1st birthday. Never noticed I had here DD's phone on the bottom of her card. Why now? why the one of several children, did I have this particular woman's number? Why the one going for breast sx in a week.? Okay, I do believe Nancy has been pushing me. Hope her DD has a benefit.
Her screen name if I get it right is Flauto. She told me she choose it because it is a musical symbol and she plays the flute. I didn't invite her here yet because she has lot's of studying to do
Her mom and I talked once a year since 1992. It wasn't just Nancy's birthday. it was a strong feeling to call for months. I kept telling myself it was the birthday thing.. Wish I knew when the intensity started.

Beatmom, Phyllis is coming your way. I know you know that. if you don't !
ROPE her in and hold her tight. Hold her tight , you will know why
-
My keyboard is a bit broke. I cleaned the keyboard and the screen today. Same as usual. Bounty and vinegarwater sprayed on the cloth.
Then started on the computer. Certain keys wouldn't work........... worst combo ever
A..b...n...try to write breastcancer.org without a,b,or an n
How does the browser handle " restccr.org". TYping on, on screen keyboard. Wiggles with every touch. Great with vertigo and macular stuff. I could trip just by turning may head. That was a 60's thing hahaha.
My tech guys worked, on it....a started working again. The other three =$#(_=.
I think I hurt my computer. Maybe a little to rough cleaning it. Sounds really stupid, I usually clean it when it's on. Oh so gentle. it's was off, I WAS DEFINITELY, more than gentle. . Now I have messed it up
Chit!
Maybe, this is meant to be something knew. It certainly feels like riding a horse with all the up and down of the screen. I even just sat the chair more upright and me too. To see if I could get the rhythm going of riding a horse.
Maybe this will be some sort of blessing

Shep, thought of you with the mouse in the bathroom when I saw this.
-
Oh, if only! That is a good kitty 😸

hi guys, I've been lurking. Sas, sorry about losing your friend. . A friend of mine died right after Father's Day, he'll be sorely missed. Authorities think it was natural causes, won't ever know for sure, they didn't find him for a couple days.
Not much to say, here's Evie at 4th of July. They were here for a week to visit. They are thinking of moving back. Hope so. My GD sounds miserable and wants to come home. She misses her mom terribly.
I'm going to be in Florida next week, sewing conference in Orlando. Sas, don't worry about meeting up, no time and I know you don't drive like before. Hope I don't die from the humidity!! Hot here, been in the 100s all week, but it's different then what you get.
Everyone take care.

Loverly, so glad you and your dad had the chance to talk about the boat people tragic events. Those oral history specifically related to you family will be lost if you don't try to catch them before too late. My family went through a lot moves from1930 to 1950 due to the World War II and communists take ove in China. My dad is gone and my mom no longer can remember the past. Glad I had talked to them before, and my sister was able to go back to the old homestead to visit some left behind butnot too distant relatives. Keep digging the golden memories from your parents. Is your dad fully recovered from the Hawaii accident?
-
Smaarty beautiful photo of Evie. Best wishes for your travels. DH is heading out your way with his 2 adult sons to see San Fran and redwoods and travel up to Seattle to visit some family. Glad I am in Ireland as I am not a heat seeking missile by any stretch of the imaginatiomn. More like one of those bugs that crawls under a rock!
-
Smarrty, thanks about Nancy. It was a shock and a blessing, Certainly a mixed bag. Sorry about your friend too. ......I wish there was time to meet. Driving is difficult, but maybe I could work something out. Even if it were only for a few minutes. Where are you going to be? Orlando has soooooo many convention places. Look for the Space Coast quilters. They are from my county. Brevard..
Evie looks beautiful. I do hope the kids move back. I had such horrible phone bills when I moved away between calling my mom and sister..
Lovely, the story from when you arrived here..whew.... Your dad is a man of such courage.
