Super Scared and Trying to Make Sense of it all

I had a mammogram 2 weeks ago - got the dreaded call back - had a 3D Mammo followed by U/S on left breast. Calcifications both breasts but "normal" for age (61).

This was the result of the Ultrasound on my left breast and if anyone could make sense of it I would be so grateful. I have to schedule a Core Biopsy per Radiologist suggestion. The fear is unbelievable.

In regards the left breast, spot-compression CC and MLO views with
combination tomosynthesis were performed. The breast tissue is
heterogeneously dense and overall somewhat nodular. Nodularity of the medial
left breast appears as scattered fibroglandular densities on the tomo views.
In the posterior upper outer left breast, there is persistence of a 1.3 cm
somewhat lobulated mass.

Targeted ultrasound of the upper outer left breast shows a hypoechoic
lobulated solid mass with some posterior shadowing measuring 1.3 cm in the 2
o'clock left breast, approximately 6 cm from the nipple, and corresponding to
the mammographic mass in question. Morphology is indeterminate and
histological diagnosis is recommended.

raaketa: What did your doctor say?

Just to schedule a biopsy (which I'm doing) - and to "follow the process" - no real explanation of the report. He didn't say to "hurry" or "it has to be done immediately" - just that the only way we'll know for sure what "it" is is to take a sample of tissue and find out.

I do better with explanations rather than letting my brain wander all over the place (usually to dark places). Am trying to stay positive and hopeful - but it's difficult.

I would go ahead and call the doc back. Maybe make an appointment to go in and ask your questions, or at least ask him on the phone.

We know the waiting is hard. Try to find things to distract yourself. Do let us know after your biopsy.
