edited August 2017 in Waiting for Test Results

Hi everyone, I posted for the first time in the "not diagnosed but worried" forum, so I'm continuing here.

About 2 months ago I found a movable lump in my left breast. It didn't go away after a full menstrual cycle, so I went to my GP for a breast exam. He said he doesn't think I have a reason to worry, but scheduled me for an ultrasound and a mammogram. I went today for the tests... they started with the ultrasound and the radiologist told me it looks like a fibroadenoma and she "sees them all the time". They did not do the mammogram (I didn't ask why not, I did not want to get the mammogram). She scheduled me for a ultrasound biopsy to be 100% sure.

Hearing a second person reassure me made me feel better but I hate having to wait for another test :(

Good luck! I'm in a similar boat - just turned 35, felt that a lump I've had for years that was previously diagnosed as a customer had changed after weaning my youngest a couple months ago. Super tender (always has been) but GP ordered an ultrasound and mammogram to be certain. Radiologist saw something solid that he's confident is a fibroadenoma but says they basically biopsy almost all solid nodules to be absolutely certain, especially once the patient is 30+. He said even when extremely confident they sometimes get that 1 in a million unexpected malignant result so for everyone's peace of mind he recommends a biopsy.

Had my core biopsy days ago, and it was super easy and not very painful at all. Will hear back in 10-14 days. Ugh. Hard to wait, even when everyone says it's probably totally fine! Fingers crossed for you as well 😊

New update: my doctor called me that he received the results from the radiologist and told me again that it looks like a fibroadenoma. He suggested the biopsy and also mentioned making an appointment with a breast specialist that he referred to me. I called to make the appointment with the breast specialist, and they also received my US results, AGAIN saying "looks like a fibroadenoma." However, they said to wait until after an appointment with them to do the biopsy. The earliest they could schedule me was for the end of the month!

I feel like this process is so dragged out, when everyone is telling me its probably nothing. I don't mean to complain because I know not everyone has as positive feedback as I have received, but I was looking forward to having the biopsy and being done with it- now it looks like I'll have to wait even longer.

    Just updating..

Met with the BS. She once again told me by looking at my ultrasound and doing an exam that she thinks its a fibroadenoma, but scheduled me for a core biopsy to confirm. Just had that today. Waiting for results now...

    Hi Katy287

Sorry you feeling anxious through the waiting, but just wanted to let you know you're not alone :)

I'm also waiting to hear results, from a core biopsy, and it is a bit nerve wracking for sure even when the best odds are in your favor

Hang in there, answers coming soon!
