Let's Post our Daily Exercise

Back from our trip to watch the grandkids while my DD and her DH went to a wedding. The kids are 9, 8, and 6, and boy did they keep us busy. First day we took them for a hike, river bend park to great falls on the Potomac. Great day, and at the end we happened upon a turtle demo by the park staff. Next day we went down to the mall where there was a circus festival going on - had a great day watching trapeze, trying our hand at some juggling, and watching a circus under the big top. Then of course a ride on the carousel, and a quick visit to the Natural History museum. Needless to say we slept well at night - this was our first time solo grandparenting (step grandkids that came into our life a couple of years ago), but we did OK and they are great kids, hardly any problems except when they were tired. Got back late Sunday night, yesterday was a military change of command and retirement ceremony luncheon, very interesting. Last night we made it to the beach for "tunes on the Dunes", a pretty good rock cover band was playing and the evening was gorgeous. Storms today, and I had meals on wheels to deliver. Hoping we get enough respite from the rain to head to the beach again this evening for supper, as it is very humid here today.

Wondering if anyone here has any information about wetsuits and node biopsy. I am doing a tri in September and would like to wear a wet suit but don't want to cause any issues.
-
Marie: hoping someone chimes in about wearing a wet suit. I wouldn't want to cause any issues, either.
Ruth: I have to admit that I giggled when I read what you wrote about your dh.
M0mmy: were you able to workout tonight?
Sweet: please post a picture of your coffee table and stool when they are finished. They sound very interesting!
Nats: your MIL is so lucky to have you!
Pushed mowed for 75 minutes this evening. I really miss my springtime temperatures and low humidity!
-
Our new lawnmower was delivered tonight. H RAN outside to greet the driver! Little boy with a brand new toy!! It's in the garage now & he can hardly stand it. He wants to mow something right now.
I joined a fitness club this afternoon. I have a meeting with a trainer Monday morning. I just can't walk outside in this heat/humidity. It got up to 99 degrees...I have no idea what the heat index was.
-
45 minute tough lower body Body Sculpt class followed by 30 minutes treadmill with legs that felt like noodles after the workout. DH had BBQd chicken with sweet potatoes and a salad ready for me when I got home. He's definitely a keeper!. Watched the evening news and finished up season 1 of House of Cards. Folded two loads of laundry and showered and am vegging in front of a box fan catching up with y'all (pretty warm and humid and I hate to turn on the air conditioner because I don't wanna close my windows!).
Sleep well ma belles
-
Hi Marie: I did answer your question about the wetsuit on the scuba thread. It shouldn't be a problem. Good luck with the tri!
Did laps in the pool for 45 minutes today. Since it was about 105 outside that felt good!
-
Velvet, your DH sounds like mine....LOL!
It is so hot & humid here that I am happily ensconced in my air conditioned house. The local weathermen have been on the air broadcasting tornado and storm warnings for the last 4 hours (very, very bad storms to the east of us).
Marie11, I can't answer your question, but go to the SEARCH bar and type in 'Triathlon' and also 'wetsuits' and some threads will come up that may be helpful to you.
-
Silly me, ruthbru, I said our new lawnmower. I will never get near it. I was not allowed to drive the other one. Our agreement when we married...the inside of the house is my territory and the outside is his. And I don't mind it one bit!
As per A/C. I go from my air-conditioned house to an air-conditioned car to an air-conditioned store, doctor, etc. I couldn't survive here without it. I am always amazed when H talks about not having any A/C until he was in high school and there wasn't any when his parents were growing up. I grew up in Michigan and never really knew what heat and humidity were until I came here. We had humidity, of course, and heat, but never like this. The humidity feels like a weight pressing down on you and add 90+ temps and it gets unbearable.
-
Really enjoyed the photos, storm one was amazing (we now have rain too, feeling humid) , all the walking and roofing - wow! Marie, with one node removed, you most likely are good to go and have a terrific tri!
I'm down a rabbit fundraising hole with home front crisis thrown in for good measure. Saturday is our all day Wellbeing Day fundraiser for Pink Ribbon Pilates. We have 18 women who have paid 50£ for a day of yoga, pilates, singing for health, a talk by noted body language expert and ending with meditation sound bath - also one body treatment of the following, reiki, indian head massage and reflexology, plus a delicious two course vegetarian lunch and healthy snacks throughout the day. Well last night, water came gushing through the light fixture in the upstairs bedroom, pouing on the bed and the over a 100+ year old quilt that was my grandmothers. The leak did stop, yet DH is working from home today as we try to figure it out as it's pretty dry up in the loft and overflow drainage working properly. Between all of this, I'm teaching extra classes and finding cover for my own. I'm speaking tonight to a bc support group that meets once a month at our local NHS hospital, about exercise, during and post-treatment whilst hoping to get more coming to our Pink Ribbon Pilates - with freshly pressed flyers on hand. On top of that, I read the news headlines about American politics each morning and despair. Women cannot now show their arms - be sleeveless in the House, (sleeveless dresses and open toed shoes for women are generally considered acceptable office wear by offices outside Saudi Arabia) with more of The Handmaid's Tale becoming real. I long for the days past...of the lovely, well toned Michelle Obama arms, that most of us quite admire: http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/workout/arms/exercises/how-to-get-michelle-obamas-arms-the-workout-plan/
Happy hump day everyone!
-
Got the workout in despite my mom calling to check on me as I reached ten minutes to go. Finished while I was talking to her.
-
On the spur of the moment this morning I decided to take s walk around my neighborhood before it got too bad. My BS wants me to exercise 4-5 days a week, even if it means doing a big workout and then the next a short one like my walks around the neighborhood.
-
WWW met up by a nursing home that is right next to a local dam with nice walking paths. We are having very weird weather. Yesterday it was 96 degrees and very humid, this morning it was 62, cool and windy. By Friday, it is supposed to be 100. Yikes! DS is out of town today for work, so I will take grand-doggie walk this afternoon & yoga tonight.
-
My goodness I didn't realize I hadn't been here for 10 days and you girls are all zipping along, I have been keeping up with the exercise but by the time I get home from work, change and go to the gym, come home and cook and eat I watch about an hour of tv I'm done and my neuroma is playing up again, it's my own fault I keep buying shoes and they feel great in the store but when I start wearing them at the gym I don't like them so I revert back to my worn out old Nikes and I know it's a mistake so I have finally thrown them out cause if they're there on the floor I'd be putting them on - got myself some very very expensive even on sale Asics this time on the recommendation of someone who does a lot of high impact workouts so far so good but not very good for dancing so I need new dancing sneakers ughhhhh.
LB I hope you are able to save the quilt and sure wish I was over there I would certainly pay the fifty pounds for what sounds like a great day - I will be over in October so I hope to come take a class with you, at some point I'll be in South Darenth in Kent. Went to a master class for BF77 on saturday, I did pretty good except for the foot in the air roll over bendy bit - I just collapsed on the floor and laughed at that point. Wonderland your storm picture is gorgeous. Nats agree you MIL is lucky to have you both, warning it's stinking hot here at the moment hopefully it will cool down by next week. Love your WWW women Ruth, enjoy your walk with the grandpuppy. Gym tonight will be Grit and Body Pump.
-
Cheryl, I have shoes like that, a beat-up old pair of Asics. Should throw them away but they're good for gardening. Just got a new pair of Brooks and like them. They have a nice wide toe box but aren't clunky.
Just back from an hour at the gym, did treadmill and weights. Also walked at lunchtime.
Thanks everyone for being your awesome selves!
-
I did not realize I had been away from here for almost 2 weeks either! I am not sure why but this summer vacation feels so busy! I have read through most of the posts. Love the turtle, storm and bear pictures. Good luck, Lilac, with your event this Saturday. It sounds amazing! Sweet-that tissue expander thread was such a support to me too and neurontin helped me as well. Pat- one of these nights I am going to make it over to "tunes on the dunes". It sounds like fun and is only about an hour from me. Ruth- one of my favorite Zumba teachers moved to Florida and we are all missing her so much. Luckily I have another one that I really like and she is covering for the one who moved. Did double Zumba on Monday.
Been keeping up my exercise classes with Zumba, Water Fitness and Pound as well as swimming and biking. I have been adding mileage to my bike rides and am up to 17 miles from 12 originally. DH and I built a patio out back which involved lots of lifting and carrying of the patio blocks.
Both of my daughters are moving out in the next couple of weeks so we have been busy going through stuff and reminiscing as they decide what to get rid of and what to hold on to. Big changes..
-
Started my new yoga class yesterday. It's been a while since I took a yoga class, and my poses were certainly rusty!
Packing and running errands today before an early flight to LA tomorrow morning.
-
Have a great trip, Mary!
Off to POUND in a few minutes & will probably take a walk this afternoon. We are having two cooler days & then back into the broiler we go.
-
Have a super time in LA Mary & DH. Oh Cheryl, #77 track 7 flip your dog is not easy and hard on shoulders and yes to absolutely meeting up in October, oh goody! Ruth, terrific photo. Thank you lovely ladies on the good luck on Saturday. It's getting close, I'm getting a bit event anxiety stricken and have sexy beetroot roasting on oven. One of our members makes it each year and she is away this year, yet the sexy beetroot will still be on tap. The talk last night was fun, and a few women who have drifted through Pink Ribbion Pilates were in attendance and slightly sheepish to see me and no reason to be..everyone is doing their best after treatment and no judgement from me. Anyway, DH home today and off to see his ENT for his year check (post throat cancer) and I'm off in a bit to balance some bodies.
-
What is sexy beetroot?????
-
Ruth, I was wondering the same thing.
-
-
Really? Huh. Thanks Velvet. "The beet is the most intense of vegetables" -Tom Robbins
Lilac, I can imagine your nervousness but all will be well! Your intentions are good so stay in that space.
Ok; Ladies, we caught your heat here on the East Coast. In spite of it, we walked 5 miles yesterday. Holy hot flash! The little ds and I swam in the bay this morning at 9:00 before it got too hot. I'm finally cleared for swimming and running as of yesterday's visit to the PS. No yoga yet! Mary, I'm with you on the rusty poses, but it's good you got there!
Tomorrow a group of us are going to Camden Yards to watch the Cubs v Orioles for the DHs bday. There's a tstorm watch, so hoping the game isn't cancelled!
-
Oops! Haven't checked in in a few days but happy to see everyone pushing forward!
sweetandspecial- thanks for asking about the TE pain. I had my med onc check it out and she thinks it might just be scar tissue from the TE. I'm having the exchange in a couple of weeks (yay!) but unhappy that surgery recovery will interrupt the positive momentum of getting back into more regular exercise.
Falconer- chuckling about holy hot flash, but congrats on 5 mi yesterday! I hope the game tmrw isn't cancelled.
Going to a yoga class this afternoon!
Stay strong, ladies.
-
Ginger, if you ever do make it to tunes on the dunes (mondays and wednesdays) - message me and we can meet up!
We went and had dinner and a walk on the beach Tuesday night. Yesterday morning we spent putting up giant tents for the annual Animal Shelter Yard Sale. Hot, sweaty, and lots of bending and stretching. Passed on tunes on the dunes last night, it looked like rain, but turns out it didn't. This morning finished up the tents, and the afternoon has been a lot of thunderstorms. Supposed to turn a bit cooler which I am looking forward too.
-
pat- I will message you if I get there.
Did a water fitness class at 1 and a Pound class at 5:30. Figured I would do water fitness before the thunderstorms came and closed the pool. I love my vacation schedule for exercise. It was really humid and hot this morning but itdropped about 20 degrees in 2 hours this afternoon.
-
I am going to meet with a trainer to create a personal exercise plan, Monday morning. I know I need to inform him/her about the bc and to tell him/her that my MO wants me to keep walking, but to add other low-impact and weight bearing exercises. I have a question about me: should I be wearing a lymphedema sleeve for any of these exercises? Only my RO has spoken to me about the possible risks of lymphedema and even he hasn't said what my particular risks may be. All he has suggested I do is wear gloves when I am outdoors working, be careful not to cut the right hand/arm and to wear a medic alert bracelet that states I have a lymphedema risk and that no BP or needles for right arm.
-
Velvet, here's the link to the thread that NatsFan started about LE and exercise. Full of excellent info!!
https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/58/topics...
Edited to add: bumped the thread to the too
-
LB: Your fundraiser sounds amazing! The ladies are in for a treat. Sorry about your horrible leak!
Badger: I bet you are glad you joined the gym.
Good Evening Everyone! I received good news this week: I've been released from my onc! Mastectomy in Nov. 2006. Tx in 2007. She said it was time.
Walked/ran late this evening as the heat and humidity in the oppressive range. Like Falconer said, Holy Hot Flash!
-
Thanks Falconer . Heading there right now.
-
Burner - the exchange surgery won't set you back much. It's a wayyyyyyyy quicker, nicer recovery than mastectomy/reconstruction. My PS wouldn't let me do anything but walk for exercise the two weeks I was off work for my exchange recovery. That being said, as I recall we had a bit of a mantra on the exchange thread when I was hanging out there a lot......'Just because you can doesn't mean you should!'. Follow your doc's instructions and let the healing process take place. You may get impatient because you're not in much pain, but the whole scar tissue forming and healing process is a delicate balance and we have to give it time. Rush it too much and you could end up with keloid tissue (ropy looking scars inside and out). Just enjoy that nice new soft boobie and get back on track when you get clearance. And now I'm stepping off my soapbox
I sit in front of a computer all day at work and doing the same after I get home is just about the last thing on my list of fun things to do. Don't think I don't love y'all though. I totally enjoy catching up occasionally. There's such a huge variety of ways to keep moving. Although none of us would have chosen it voluntarily - this is a great sisterhood to belong to once you're a member of the BC club
.
Tonight after work was my Thursday body sculpt (upper body day) followed by 30 minutes treadmill.
Sleep well ladies............xoxoxoxoxo
