I'm with auntie - what caused the stains - my inquiring mind wants to know, but at the same time it is a tiny bit afraid... poor susan - what a PITA, and I apologize on behalf of the nicer, non-staining, people of Florida.

I think make up and possibly something like a body foundation? The bath sheets, which generally are used AFTER showering, had huge stains, and sadly, the shape indicates that it was in their genital regions. Wash clothes and hand towels are definitely makeup. [PLEASE NOTE: I provide makeup refer pads and white towels for makeup removal.] Now, this group consisted of two 59 and one 65 year old. Ugh.

Current guests are NOT Amish. They live in an Amish community, and he was raised Hutterite. However, they didn't arrive from Pennsylvania in a horse and buggy. She is quick to note that she was raised Irish Catholic. I think I could have asked more questions, but chose not to. Too many people come and go to get too involved.

Now off to check that washer full of towels. SO IRRITATED!

Body Foundation?? Body foundation at age 59-65? Sounds like a threesome and TMI. This inquiring mind will back off. Sorry you have to deal with this.

Nance - no kidding - a WalMart with a 'horse & buggy' port? Well sorry to say, I live in a state with very little tolerance for intelligence - and definitely a car culture. Hope your Dad finds the roommates in the 'large' room more to his liking. Remember freshman selection at college? Boy did they screw up with me. But to be fair, I was ready to expand my wings & grow and my assigned roommate was firmly in a cocoon.

Still had some leftover rotassarie chicken, so tried one of the Amy's Bowls from my freezer - Mushroom Risotto. It's organic Arborio rice in a creamy sauce with Porcini mushrooms & fresh young green peas. Gluten free, non GMO, no trans fat, no added MSG, no added preservatives. no animal enzymes or rennet. I spooned the risotto on top of the leftover chicken chunks. Really not bad for an emergency freezer meal. I'll probably try some of the others - Baked Ziti Bowls, Brown Rice & Vegetables Bowls, Broccoli & Cheddar bowls, etc. Have no idea what I paid for it, but I only bought the one to try with a coupon. Nice to have for emergencies (like a hurricane).

Forgot to mention dessert. Large, fresh strawberries - swirled in sour cream & rolled in brown sugar. YUM.

The dinner wine was Kirkland Meritage from Costco. Not as good as the Hahn Meritage.

Waving at you Nance. Susan, stained anything especially towels is atrocious. Double uggggh

Tonight was spicy shrimp with bokchoy and bean sprouts. And of course sauteed zucchini. I am swimming in it too AuntiNance. I froze a few peaches last night. Just with sugar and fruit fresh. I didn't have enough to can.

Minus what grade would you give the Amys bowl? A being great, F is awful?

Oh, Susan - what horrible guests! My DH and I have booked many vacations now on VRBO and Airbnb - we treat these rooms/apartments/homes better than our own!

My brother lives adjacent to Amish country in Pennsylvania. No one thinks anything of pulling up next to a horse and buggy at a red light.

Now that my rads are complete (as of today!), maybe I'll start creating some dinners worthy of mention here!

Ugh—bet the Floridians were wearing all-over bronzer (gotta keep up appearances down in FL, even if you can’t safely tan).

Got my hair done today (roots, straightening, trim), and had an hour left on the parking meter. The salon is just n. of Argyle St., aka Chinatown North. So I walked a few blocks and picked up half a Cantonese roast duck, and Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce; at a Vietnamese-French bakery next door, a red bean and a yellow bean bun, and two gorgeous fruit tarts (half the price and twice the size of those at Whole Foods). Had my repeat CBC & ferritin drawn, and am debating about whether to have some Pinot Noir with the duck (or a little rose from the magnum Bob put in the fridge—not sure if any is left). Drinking a “faux-jito:” cherry-lime seltzer over ice with a wedge of lime plus mint from my garden.

After working on these towels for over 30 hours, they are clean with the exception of one hand and wash towel. They are back into the OxyClean spa. The sheets and pillowcases are also all clean. Bronzer? Really? who know... I have never worn makeup, moisturizer, bronzer or all the other products designed to separate women from their money.

Dinner was chicken parmesan. I cooked up the whole breast, and only used 1/2 tonight. The rest can become almost anything, tomorrow.

And just cause we can, a gratuitous Olivia picture in today's rain gear. [One of the rompers I have made is under that LLBean jacket.]

Say hi to Ms. O. :-) Sigh, on the towels. I don't have clue about "body foundation". I guess I'd have to ask DD or Sharon about that.

Tapper...Lake Arrowhead. That's not too far from my old hometown of 29 Palms. Welcome.

Well, back to "work". We are packing up to leave for Upstate New York for Sharon's high school class reunion/visit with the family. DD is taking a summer school class (to get ahead of the schedule) and can't go. The class is mostly on-line, but she has to show up in person to take the tests...so she's going to "babysit" the dogs and bounce back and forth between home, her apartment and school. We will miss not having her along. She has always loved to travel, even when she was a toddler and small child.

Actually, moisturizer is a good idea at any age, especially on skin at risk for lymphedema to keep it hydrated and intact. And it doesn’t have to be expensive.

Auntinance...my dad was a WWII vet too and donated his body to SLU. Did you know at Jefferson Barracks, they will do a memorial stone for him and your Moms name on the back. They look just like the others that have someone buried. All free of charge, nice ceremony. Where in St. Louis do we have Amish?

Thinking Positive - oh heavens, you certainly don't have to PM. All questions are welcome at the table. I just don't remember that we ever discussed cholesterol Don't know your age but yes, we should probably get a lipid panel with some regularity as we age. I have one about every 2-3 years but choose to treat any numbers that are 'off' with re-doubled exercise rather than drugs.

Oh my goodness, what a difficult choice between Miss O and the Chicken Parmesan. She is soooooo cute.

Eric - Didn't you send some pictures from campgrounds during a trip last year? Are you driving? Be safe.

Val - I'm not sure I'm qualified to judge the Amy's Risotto. First, I've never made "real" risotto. Second, my starch of choice is pasta unless it's fried rice. Third, I rarely eat any frozen dinners & bought this on a whim when I was looking for something else - mainly because my SIL has to eat gluten free & I thought I should have something on hand for her. Oh dear - maybe right in the middle between superb & cardboard. I'd buy/eat it again but may or may not remember. My DIL is a vegetarian and says Amy's lasagna was good for emergencies when she was working full time & got home late. If anyone else has tried Amy's it I'd love your thoughts.

Yum on the soup and the chicken parm!

Jiffrig -- I did not know that about JB -- thanks for the info! Lol - I don't think there are Amish in St. Louis (if there are, they're well hid.) I'm from St. Louis but now about 70 miles north in Bowling Green. My dad lived in Alton, Il (that's where I'm actually from) but is now in a nursing home in Edwardsville. Good to "see" someone from my area on here!

Freya - forgot to welcome you back too. Hope you are holding your own.

Minus, I always see it and think, hmm maybe it will be good. I make a decent risotto. Time consuming but worth it.

lllimae, that soup looks wonderful. Love the noodles. Same with the chicken parm. Lots of good ideas here for my cooking weekend.

Last night, DDSIL grilled swordfish. He placed it on a bed of sauteed spinach. I made an old fashioned lemon meringue pie. Sad, no left overs.

Told DH his soup was well liked on this thread. The first time he made me soup many, many years ago, I made the mistake of saying it was almost as good as Campbell's. He was devastated and I've yet to live it down but this was way better than anything canned. Not sure what we're having tonight, probably leftover soup and a salad.

Caught up on reading 5 pages of posts! I was thrilled to read Susan's report that her scan showed great news! Also, Olivia looks like such an interesting child in addition to being cute. Love the picture of her in the rain jacket.

Nance, I hope your spiralizer gets more use than mine, which hasn't "spiralized" anything to date. I keep it wrapped in a cloth so that it doesn't get dusty! Good news that your dad is back in the nursing home.

Joyce, your pool looks inviting. Lovely pots of flowers.

Hi, Bedo! How is the grand child?

Time passes so fast. On Tuesday I'll be flying to New Orleans to spend a couple of weeks visiting my mother and giving my younger sister a break.

We have been eating meals. Yesterday I made a large pot of pasta sauce at dh's request. We had a pasta dinner last night and the rest of the sauce is in the freezer. The meat in the sauce is pork Italian sausage.

Tonight we'll have chicken fillets, creamed spinach and tossed salad. The fillets are very thin, created by slicing a large boneless breast. I'll probably bread them lightly and brown in a small amount of butter and olive oil. Very quick cooking.

We took the boat out into the lake this morning and did some fishing and not much catching. I hooked a small Northern Pike that put up a fight and, fortunately, unhooked himself without snapping off the hook and lure. We enjoyed watching loons that would pop up quite close to the boat. They're such striking birds and quite large. There was a group of six of them occupied with their search for food.

After a very cool, at times cold, June, we're having some warm days but so far have needed the a/c on only two days. I'm sure the unit at home, set at 82, has been running quite a bit.

Heading out on foot today, dragging my wheeled shopping bag behind me—CVS, coffee roastery (need fresh espresso beans—WF doesn't sell fresh enough ones), and either WF or En Lai Asian Restaurant to pick up a noodle &/or veggie dish to go with the leftover roast duck and Chinese broccoli—maybe I have enough broccolini in the crisper to supplement it. Will also make a cucumber salad with sesame oil, rice wine vinegar and a dash of gojuchang paste—which I like better than sriracha.

Gordy is going to the Taste (of Chicago) to see one band and then to the Square Roots (Americana & indie rock, used to be folk music) festival in Lincoln Square to see the Meat Puppets. I gave up on the Taste after going two years ago and having to buy cards of scrip (the booths charge scrip for their dishes). You can never buy enough at first to cover everything you’d like, so you have to buy another card—and you end up having to compromise on the last dish of the day because it’s the only one that takes the tickets you have left, or giving away your leftover scrip to other fairgoers, since it’s not reusable year-to-year. Wish you could buy only what you need or want. Same problem with OysterFest too. The one year I was invited to play at Square Roots (the Old Town School’s Songwriter Exchange booked a slot), I had to give it up to attend a friend’s wedding…and two years later he got divorced. Now the Chicago festivals are all run by the same agency that books the same big and semi-big names. The rest of us are relegated to what few coffee houses haven’t been harassed by ASCAP or BMI out of offering live music, to smaller events like block parties, or even to busking at farmers’ markets. So that’s why I play only benefits, out-of-town markets & fests—they book directly and the latter two pay up front. (Hint—I also love to do house concerts, and if anyone here wants to host one when I’ll be in your neck of the woods…)

Ilona, that soup looks like the chicken and homemade noodle (almost spatzle) soup the German restaurants around here used to make. I say “used to" because the Berghoff downtown is just about the only one left: Golden Ox, Zum Deutschen Eck, Salzburger Hof, Wolfgang Puck Cafe—all gone; and Chicago Brauhaus is closing if it hasn't already. And I am jonesing for real veal (or pork or poultry) Wienerschnitzel with skillet-fried potatoes….

No kidding Sandy - in my hometown, small world!

For the risotto challenged such as myself, the pressure cooker makes awesome risotto with no hassle. Previously i would only make it if my DDIL was here because she's willing to stand and stir the stuff for 30 minutes.

Pasta con broccoli and a salad of some kind tonight.

Mommy - just saw your post on the book thread and was wondering how you are doing. Hope your chili can be done w/o turning on the oven. I thought about pork roast today but with the temps hovering around 100, no thanks to more heat in the house.

Actually I've been researching creamy chicken noodle soup. That picture looked so yummy. Anybody have a good recipe for the crock pot?

Dinner was the rest of the chicken served schnitzel-like with a wedge of lemon, the leftover sweet potatoes, fresh peas, and a broccoli gratin. The broccoli is local. I made a white sauce and added a bit of cheddar and goat cheese. Toasted home-bread-made bread crumbs with a bit of butter and parmesan cheese. I even made the white sauce with real cream. Trying very hard to put a few pounds back on before Tuesday. Maintaining weight is turning into a full time job! If I don't pay attention, weight comes off. This is so weird for me. I spent my life gaining weight when I just looked at food, much less consuming it.

I am almost done with my fourth romper. This is a different pattern and it is horrible. The instructions must have been written in Japanese, translated into Finnish with google translate, before bringing it into English using Bing. The reviews on the Simplicity site are hysterical. Let us say, I am the first person to make it past step 12.

I too think that the chicken noodle soup is gorgeous. What kind of pasta is that? Such a fascinating shape..... I want to know more.
