Hi All:

Wanted to get some input and info about recovery after SGAP flap procedure. I'm concerned about comfort sleeping at night. Since you can't sleep on your stomach is it comfortable to sleep on your back with the incision or do people sleep on their sides maybe with a body pillow?

I had Bilateral Sgap and I slept on my back. The drains in the sides of my hips hurt to sleep on my sides, plus I did not want to sufficate the new breasts until they took, which I was told it wouldbe about 2 months.

no side sleeping for minimum 4 weeks, no tummy sleeping for minimum 6 weeks. Accidentally cutting off the blood flow to all or part of the breast is the primary reason why you have to sleep on your back. Add in the pull and or pressure on your incisions and it's a recipe for disaster to try it any earlier. once everything's healed well and swelling has gone down you can try to lay on your side/tummy (note the word 'try'-it's not as easy as it was before surgery but you'll get there).

If you don't already have one, a recliner works great for sleeping in post SGAP/DIEP flap. It keeps you on your back in a zero (or nearly zero) gravity position. Also prevents any sleeping partners from accidentally whacking you across the chest with their arm in their sleep. I highly recommend an electric recliner as working the reclining mechanism can be difficult and the leg rest may come up way too fast in a manual recliner post surgery. Andre your dr will write you a prescription for the recliner you can take it off your taxes
