edited July 2017 in Waiting for Test Results

Hello,I'm new here. never thought ill be writing these. or talking about this, back in October of last year 2016 i had my first mammogram, at age 47. they found about 6 cysts but only one, was concerning the doctor, so i was called back the following day for another mammogram. then i was told that i would need a ultrasound. then was told to do a 6 month follow up. but before the 6 months came around, i had a strange sharp pain on my left breast. like a splinter had poked me from the inside out. i then went in to talk to my doctor about it. which she had me do another ultrasound, there the radiologist told me, i can wait the 6 months or have a biopsy scheduled, i chose the Biopsy. in January i had the biopsy done. they found a cyst with debris in it. they took out the liquid,to have it checked out and told me that it would take a week to see the results, never heard back from them on the results. no news, is always good news i say. will i had my 6 month mammogram and an ultrasound, the cyst with the debris was back a little bit wider and closer to the surface they told me, they ended up doing a Vacuum Core Biopsy at the last minute. and told me it will take a week to get the results. today marks the week, but i know it can take longer. has anything like this happen to anyone. feeling worried, scared, concerned. please let me know

concerned, "no news is good news" is not the way to go when you're waiting on cytology (liquid sample) or pathology (tissue sample). Call them and ask what the pathology results say. It's been a week. Call them.

    Good luck for B9 results!

Concerned - every lab & every doc has their own protocol. Some take 3 days. Some take two weeks. If you know the radiologist, you can always call & push their office. Sorry you're having to wait. We know it's hard.

    Hi concerned,

It could be that someone is ill, and the workload is heavy, or the person whose opinion they want is on vacation (summer after all...). Or it could be that they've sent them to the office of the doc who ordered the test and they got misfiled--or it simply hasn't arrived in the mail. There's simply no way to know.

Since the ordering doc's office says they don't have the results yet, I'd call the radiology center and ask if the report is ready/has been sent. If it's been sent, ask them how it was sent, as your doc's office doesn't seem to have it. You're the person with the most interest in the prompt availability of the report, so it will probably be you who has to chase it down...

If it hasn't been sent yet, ask them when it will be sent, then follow up then.

I'm sorry I can't really say anything helpful just now.

    Hang in there,

    LisaAlissa

i was just called with my results, its Benign. i can take a deep breath now. but they want me to have a 6 month mammogram follow-up, but this time the breast specialist wants to do it himself, instead of doing it where i usually get it done, any idea why, if it came back benign. confused..

Good news Concerned - congrats. I would say the breast specialist just wants to make extra sure she ws right. That's good to have someone who cares backing you up.

The breast specialist (if not a radiologist himself) probably works with someone who looks at breast imaging studies day in/day out, all day. If your last imaging was done at an imaging center that does all sorts of imaging (knees, lungs, breasts, etc.) then a specialist might do a better job of both the imaging and the interpretation of the imaging.

    HTH,
