DCIS
I was scheduled to have a biopsy on both breasts but they were only able to biopsy the right breast, due to where they needed to take the sample in the left was to close to the muscle and arm pit. The doctor said it was DCIS in the right breast and that I needed to make an appointment with a surgeon. The radiologist said I would need the surgeon to biopsy the left breast when they were performing the other surgery! I have not seen the pathology report or know any more at this point. My appointment is this week and I'm feeling nervous. Any thoughts on what to do at this stage. After doing hours of web searches and looking at this forum, I'm also feeling overwhelmed. Thank you for your comments.

2brandy - first of all you need to get your path reports & copies of all your scans. If you have been diagnosed with DCIC, are you ER/PR positive? What is the size of the tumor? Do the scans show more than one?
What is the "other" surgery you are talking about on the right breast? An excisional biopsy? Removal of a fibro? A lumpectomy? A mastectomy? Way too many choices out there so you should sit down with the surgeon before scheduling anything.
Second - if you keep researching without any idea of your personal specs, of course you are overwhelmed. Dial back. Get copies of your reports. Make an appointment with a breast surgeon or go back to your GYN to discuss all the issues. If it's DCIS, there's no panic. Take your time to get all the facts in line.

Best advice given to me was always think and take one step at a time. I Agree with MinusTwo dial back get pathology report and talk to both doctors. Educating yourself is good and yes easier said than done but try and only read well researched sites like John Hopkins Mayo Clinic and articles that are done by websites such as this and maybe your states medical school. It is very overwhelming to read everybodies blog and forums and random internet posts and remember everyone's body, medical history, emotions and personalities are different. Breast cancers and breast conditions are all different too, What works for one may not work for another. Treatments , tests, procedures, surgery, reconstruction, or no reconstruction and don't be afraid ask questions lots of questions it will help you know and understand what is right for you. Take someone with you as well because it is easy to forget something that is said when you have all the scenarios racing around in your head.
I was diagnosed almost three years ago and I am so grateful it was caught so early.

I agree with MinusTwo. It can be overwhelming at first to get up to speed on the research and your choices. But if you don't narrow it down to your specific diagnosis, then holy cow! (no wonder you're overwhelmed) Take a breath and focus on those specific steps, copies of reports and consult with your surgeon. Then you can start to look at what your options are and which one(s) sound the best to you. There are so many of us here to help you, you aren't alone! Sending you warm thoughts and ((hugs))

Thanks so much ladies, yes I was way overwhelmed when I posted this. So much so I couldn't even find my post to see if anyone had commented. I got my path report -DCIS stage 0, 5cm, grade 3 ,micro invasion stage 1, Her2+, pr, er both -. on right breast. Was finally able to biopsy left and it was non cancerous. I have spoken to ps several times and have another appointment Wed. but still so unsure what to do. Looks like will need mx on right due to size and now it's all the other decisions and I am still overwhelmed. Surgery scheduled for Sept 12 and still don't know what to do. I really wanted to keep the left but I am rather large breasted for a small woman and would need reduction/lift if I keep it. Have looked into DIEP, and implants and can't decide if bmx would be best. Whew! Thanks again for your input
