Hello everyone.  A little background.  My mom (now 60) was diagnosed with IDC of the left breast in 2015.  She had a lumpectomy (nodes all tested negative).  She underwent radiation and is on a hormone blocker (Tamoxifen I believe).  Well a couple weeks ago she had her 6 month mammogram and they found a mass which the biopsy proved was cancer again, her doctor was shocked and truly thought it would be nothing (she had a small chance of recurrence).  It is IDC again and on the same side.  She said she believed they told her a grade 3 and that its more aggressive this time but that's really all we know.  We meet with her oncologist on Wednesday and I have a rather long list of questions (stage, HR/PR status, etc.).

I guess I'm just looking for any information I can get.  Even though its a stage 3, if it hasn't spread is the prognosis still good?  Does it make a difference that this is a recurrence and she's already had radiation?  We've already been told because of a PE she had last year and having already undergone radiation that reconstruction after her mastectomy is not a good option.

Thank you for reading :-)

So sorry about your mom. Has it been confirmed to be stage 3? Any chance it is grade 3, but the staging is unknown at this point?

Yes, grade 3, I mistyped!  We are not sure on the stage yet just that it's more aggressive this time around.  I also got the medication wrong :-(  She is on Arimidex.  Her surgeon did also mention the possibility of needing chemo before surgery but I guess that's something the oncologist will tell us Wednesday...?
