Small bump on skin below mastectomy scar

A few weeks ago I noticed a small bump an inch or so below my mastectomy scar on my cancer side. It's really small, maybe 1 or 2 millimeters. It isn't red, and doesn't feel hard. It doesn't feel like it's under the skin at all, but right on top of the skin. It hasn't changed in the last few weeks, but doesn't seem to be going away. I called my MO's office and talked to the nurse, and she called back and said that the MO wants me to have an ultrasound. I thought he'd want to at least see it first, but I'm going to straight to ultrasound on Monday.

Anyone had anything like this?

Cubbie - I had the same type of bump come up about 2 months after my mastectomy. I was concerned and saw my MO as soon as I could. She looked at it and used some medical term (sorry, I cannot remember - started with an H). Anyway, she told me that sometimes we have pockets of fluid that build up after major surgeries. It's still there and neither my MO, nor my PS, have had any concerns.

njgirl, was he talking about a seroma, which is a fluid pocket (hematoma if it’s blood)? If it’s solid, it’s likely a granuloma. Both annoying but harmless.

I had the exact same thing. I had them remove it (my surgeon let me watch!)...fat accumulation (lipoma). b-9. I hope the same for you!

I don't think it's a lipoma...it's not under the skin, more Ike in or on top of it. Lipomas are under the skin, right? I have something like that on the side of my neck since I was a little kid.

I had the ultrasound this morning, and it showed nothing. They could feel the bump, but even after trying different wand attachments and spending 20 minutes or so on it, they didn't see anything. They said if I wanted I could get an appointment with my BS, which I was going to insist on anyway. So now I have an appointment to see my BS on Friday. I'm going to insist that we remove this thing and find out what it is.

I hope you can hang on without too much stress. My BS said if I wanted it out, he would not blink. My whole path was not conventional and I "guessed" better than what they were telling me, so he went with my gut feel.

I saw the surgeon this morning, and after examining the bump, he says it does not look or feel like cancer and combined with the clear ultrasound, he isn't worried. He said it is actually in the skin, and is some kind of skin thing. He said to follow up with MO during my regular appointment next week. I guess if my MO also isn't concerned, I'll return to my dermatologist.

An update - my MO was also not concerned about this spot. I did get into see the dermatologist today, and they took it off for a biopsy just to be on the safe side.

I just got my biopsy results, and there was no cancer. The biopsy of the bump showed lymphedema. It was very small, only 2mm, and looked most like an epidermal cyst to the eye.
