Got the call this afternoon that I have Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Just had my biopsies yesterday from my left breast and lymph node. Positive for cancer in both locations. By how quickly my cancer grew, they're guessing I'm going to be triple negative. The mass in my left breast is 5x5.3x3.2 cm. Especially huge when I am probably not even a full A cup gal. I see everyone's diagnoses and see their tiny tumor sizes and it makes me so nervous.

The fact that my tumor in my breast is so large really freaks me out that the cancer has had time to spread throughout my body undetected. They're working on scheduling an MRI, but I know it's just looking at the breast area. My GP had me go for a chest xray when she first saw me for the lump, would that have shown if there were tumors anywhere else in my chest or in my bones?

I'm 32 so they're also scheduling me for genetic testing. I have three boys, 6.5, 5, and 3 years old. I've never smoked, I'm not overweight. I want to be confident that I'm in relatively good health aside from cancer, so I want to believe that my treatment will be successful. Since my initial appointments for all of this mess, I've been trying to eat as healthy as possible because that's the only thing I have control over right now.

Any words of wisdom are appreciated. I know we'll know more as additional details of my diagnosis come out, but of course I'm impatient. :)

I'm so sorry you have joined the club. Right now is difficult because of all the unknowns. I would ask for a PET scan as well. There's a triple negative forum if that's the final pathology results.

My DIL's mom was triple negative in her early thirties, turns out she was Brca1 pos. She said the lump was as big as a peach pit. That was close to twenty years ago now. Since then her kids have grown up, and she has three granddaughters. No recurrence. DIL is brca neg. Hang in there. Take things a step at a time. Gentle hug.

    ElleElleBee:

As a relatively new member of the club, too, I can only say that you've found a great place for advice and support. Unfortunately, we all know -- in some part -- how you're feeling. So sorry you're here.

I was also an A cup, maybe even AA, but you know what? I think that's how I located it. If I'd been bigger, the lump would have gone unnoticed. So maybe being smaller has some benefit.

I agree on additional testing with your GP or perhaps the MO (medical oncologist) that you'll have will schedule that. Just ask lots of questions -- your doctors and here. Take one day at a time. I'm a mom, too, to a 9-year-old. That part is hard. Hang in there.

So sorry to have you here Elle Elle Bee. I have gone through a similar ride - just dxed a few weeks ago at age 34 with a large tumor and a few smaller ones all in the same area. I was so scared it had spread - but the PET scan looked great. Mine came on real quick too, Grade 3, but was ER and PR +. Chemo started this past week to shrink everything down prior to surgery. Wishing you all the best and sending lots of hugs and prayers!! The initial dx is the hardest.
