Doc says its fast growing grade 3 DCIS. She is making me an appointment urgently with breast surgeon. Will be researching mastectomy rather than lumpectomy I think. I was told no chemo or hormone therapy, possibly radiation if I chose lumpectomy.

One tumour 9mm, the other 33mm. Doc thinks surgeon will lean towards mastectomy due to lump size.

I also was in your boat about a month ago. I had grade 3 Dcis in my left breast with an focus area of microinvasion. Due to size of dcis 85mm, I did have a masectomy. Currently 1 week out from it, and just did the left side. Overall recovery is going better then I thought. My final pathology came back as pT1mi Sn0. Meet with the oncologist next on the 14th, but everything I am hearing so far is probably no chemo, radiation or hormone therapy. It's all so overwhelming at first, get a couple opinions. Everyday gets a little easier. now i am feeling like it's all a huge blessing we caught it so early.

Hormone therapy is typically one of the things that is discussed, depending on the surgical intervention and receptor status.

Ladynicole, I am so sorry to welcome you to our club. You may want to join the DCIS forum, as well as the surgery, hormone therapy and radiation forums to read and discuss different options and women's experiences with them. You should plan on discussing your personal risk profile and how each of the treatment options would reduce that risk (to make your decisions). Typically, the options for pure DCIS could include surgery, radiation and/or hormone therapy. Chemo and targeted therapies (like Herceptin) aren't NCCN recommended treatments for DCIS. Please think about coming over to the DCIS forum, there is an excellent thread by Beesie all about DCIS.

    ((hugs))
