Hi, I'm new, just joined in fact. I'm a 40 year old West Aussie and for the last two years I've quite easily felt a lump in my left breast. Initial Doctor's diagnosis was hormonal cysts, don't worry about it. After a year I insisted on an ultrasound and the technician could feel the lump but not find it with the scanner. He checked the lymph nodes under my arm and commented they are fine so don't worry, go home and relax. Six months later the lump got painful as all heck. If I squeezed my nipple I got a discharge ranging from white, to yellow, to dark orange depending up the day. I also found a larger mass down deep inside my breast near my sternum. I sought out another Doctor who immediately referred me to a large public hospitals breast clinic. My six week wait for an appointment ended Tuesday where I had my first ever mammogram, and due to the pain in the lumps that was a nightmare but thankfully the technician did it manually and very slowly. I then was told that due to some architectural changes I would need an ultrasound, which was done, and then they broke it to me I'd need some core punch biopsy's. A dozen samples were taken in total, six from each lump. The Doctor doing the samples says it presents as typical Cancer on the scans but they'd have to wait for the biopsy results to come back to inform me which one I have. Obviously I was gutted. Tomorrow I find out my results. I've never been so scared in my entire life. My poor left breast feels absolutely tortured from the biopsy. It's currently bruised in all shades of red, black, green and yellow and is so tender. My mother has survived breast cancer minus her breasts but my grandmother (mothers mother) died absolutely riddled with cancer. I just want the information so I can digest it and move on with treatment. There's nothing worse than not having a name for the evil inside you.

Oh ladynicole, I'm so sorry you find yourself here awaiting a diagnosis! I am glad you found us and now have a wealth of knowledge and experience to help you as well as support. Waiting is awful! Do try to keep your mind occupied and distracted, and maybe pamper yourself a bit to take the edge off. We are here for you and waiting to be of assistance when you have your diagnosis and are starting to formulate questions. With both your mother and grandmother with bc, perhaps some genetic testing is in order? Sorry, don't know what the recommendations are in Australia, but worth bringing up as it might affect the recommendations for treatment. Sending you light and ((Hugs))
