I'm TERRIFIED of going to my Dr. My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic (sp) breast cancer when she was 35 when she was diagnosed. Im 26, I've never had a mammogram or any other testing for cancer. But I've had this like maybe the size of the tip of your pinky sized perfectly round lump I my right armpit for at least 3months, could have been longer I'm not sure. It typically doesn't hurt but occasionally it will get really sore. Is this enough to bring it up to my Dr or am overreacting? Haven't don't any research at all to know about symptoms other than the obvious lump in your breast...I feel lost and kinda scared. Help?

I can really understand your fear and I don't think you are overreacting. Your response is very understandable, given your circumstances.

The only was to find out is to go to the doctor and get it examined. Make sure they know your family history and why you are so concerned. Please dont wait as this will not change the outcome and only give you longer to worry about what is most likely to be benign. I can't offer any guarantees but even if its not a good result - you are better going earlier than later. Many, many breast cancers are not hereditary.

I will be thinking of you - let us know how you get on.

    Hi Mrsblack,

It's completely understandable that you feel scared to see your doctor after what you watched your mom go through at such a young age.

It's really important though that you get yourself checked out, as scwilly above said, it will give you answers and put your mind at ease.

May we suggest you talk to a trusted family member, friend/partner about going and maybe they can accompany you for some support.
