Swollen feet and ankle

I am having swollen feet and ankle from the fluid on both legs after fifth chemo. My onco just said it's very normal and doesn't give further explanation. I have been gaining 3-5 kg from 53kg at the beginning of the chemo.

The swollen ankle is apparently permanent but swollen feet only happen twice when I reach around 57kg.

Is it because of over weight, chemo therapy or surgery? Should I be more concern about it or just try harder to control my weight

I am on DD Taxol and started having swollen feet after every taxol infusion. Swelling subsides after about 10 days.

Weightwise, I was 20 pounds heavier when I started chemo and did not have problem.

I know it is cumbersome having swollen feet. Despite that walking helps a bit. And rubbing w some sort of cream helps. My case I rub using epsom salt.

    Thanks Mimi

So, it's probably from the chemo. Hope the swelling subside soon. It has been 25 days since last chemo and it still swells. My last chemo has to be postponed cos minor chemo leak from iv vein.

Thanks for the tips. No more excuse on go out for walking.

I think i found a small natural cure for swollen feet and hands.. when I took epsom salt scrub this morning, I put handful of the salt and water mixture which is like a glob into socks And wore socks entire time reminds you this is not a bath in a sense i dont emerse my body in water. Instead i plaster myself w paste wait and rinse off. I was doing my scrub. I tried to distribute paste inside socks. I had to stand in the shower to rinse it off. Swelling gone. Previously brown feet fom chemo toxicity is basically looks like little diluted strawberry milk. Bottom of my feet are soft as baby bottom. I pinched and scratched to make sure all are good. I felt all scratches as well as pinching. I am going to wear gloves filled w the salt paste. I will let you know how that turns out even though i know the answer.

I'm having the same swollen feet/ankles. It only began after my last chemo and I've been told that was the cause. I've been elevating my feet in a recliner in the evening, which helps. It is getting better but slower than I expected.

I had severely swollen ankles after chemo ended as did my sister.  Ours lasted about 3 weeks.

We tried to drink a lot of water which did help, and we did elevate our feet in recliner.

    Sending my best!!

Lymphatic drainage massage may also help.

MLD might help, but I think you need to get to a certified lymphadema PT first. MLD is something a trained therapist should teach you. Here's a site that might have some options.

YES!   I had swollen feet and ankles during chemo and also for the rest of the year of Herceptin only...some weeks were worse than others. Still have some swelling issues with the AI though not all of the time.  Epsom salt soaks do seem to help with the swelling as well as the joint pain.
