In June of 2015 I found 2 lumps on my left breast; diag with DCIS InSitu in 1998, aggressive/invasive cells near chest wall. I've had a mastectomy, taxotere/carboplatin/herceptin, finished in Nov 2016. Two months ago I started experiencing horrible pain in my right hip and spine. It would come and go but I finally went to my doctor last week after it became chronic. It's brought me to tears it's so painful. Pain meds, Motrin, Tylenol, muscle relaxers, nothing helps. Laying down is my only relief. I'm also experiencing extreme fatigue. I feel like I could sleep 24/7. I have a lot of problems with my health insurance here. It's great insurance, but only 1 hospital in the raleigh area accepts if. My family doctor is trying to set up a CT Scan anywhere. I don't really trust my Onco here anymore or I would have contacted him, he "doesn't believe in" CT or PTScans after treatment. I'm worried about bone cancer only because I'm so damn tired all the time. If I touch the area the pain is it sends me to the moon. Has anyone developed bone cancer after HER2+ ? Or had this type of pain and it turned out to be muscular/non cancer?

Thank you all!

Hi there, so sorry you are dealing with pain and worry,. What I do know is that bone mets pain does not come and go. It's constant.

You do need a scan to get to the bottom of it.

Gentle hugs and hope it's just a blip on the radar.

Yes, my breast cancer indeed has metastasized to the bones. Pain in my hip was the initial indicator. After a bone scan and MRI they still didn't diagnose it, so I went on a round of specialists to try and find out what was causing the increasing pain in my leg and hip. Finally one morning I woke up and couldn't move without excruciating pain. My daughter called 911 and in the emergency room the x-ray showed a displaced fracture of the femur, and the other one was about to break.

Keep pressing the doctors. This experience has shaken my faith a bit, but it is what it is. I only wish I had been more aggressive with the doctors. Pain is a sign of a problem, so keep hammering them to find the source.

I have had a lot of pain in my hips and legs, but I did do scans and no cancer was found in my bones a few months ago. I am still on herceptin and started Femara as well which can cause pain in joints and bones. It can also take time for the chemo to "leave" the body and that gives pain as well according to my nurse. Saying all this I do still think you should go ahead with a scan and find out but just want to give some hope. I was hysterical before my scans came back good..:)

Another thing is that scans should not be done all the time since they themselves can cause cancer, after I found out mine was fine I was kind of thinking...well,, now I can not do this for a long time..but pain needs to be addressed...
