2 questions- DCIS calcifications?recovery for a lumpectomy?
I have my lumpectomy tomorrow and a bit nervous. I have been fine for the past month and waiting for the surgery, but now I am getting tons of anxiety again. I feel like my opposite breast has pain and fear there is something wrong there, even though the MRI came back fine.
how is the recovery for lumpectomy?
also, is DCIS always calcifications?

Nelly - check into the June 2017 surgery thread and you can follow along. Or go back & read the May 2017 surgery thread. I didn't have LX so I can't answer that questions. DCIS comes in many different variations. When you get a minute, go to My Profile and post your diagnosis & treatment plan.
Good luck tomorrow.

Nelly, I remember that my recovery time from lx was minimal. I had my procedure on a Friday, and was back to work the next week. I had a hematoma that we watched, but not much else noteworthy. I had OTC pain relievers, but don't really even remember taking them more than the first afternoon/evening. I had SNB at the same time, but that didn't impact my recovery either.
Worrying about something else being wrong is pretty "normal", given the situation. That should go down with time
As far as calcifications, they are not always noted in DCIS, but their presence is not a factor in determining grade. (which is based on the degree of disorganization and replication rate) http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/types/dcis/diagnosis
See MinusTwo's recommendation to get support and a more detailed understanding of what to expect. Good luck!

Hi Nelly,
Sorry I'm a bit late to this thread, but I also found lumpectomy recovery very manageable. I discontinued pain meds the day after and just used ice. I wore sports bras for about 2 weeks though, even to bed. Hopefully your experience will be the same!

I had surgery on Fri and had no issues by Mon. Didnt even have to take pain meds. Wore sports bra for a few weeks. Best of luck to you!

my dcis presented as pleomorphic calcifications. Bilateral MX and reconstruction(my choice) was on 3/31. Recovery lasted approximately 2 weeks. I weaned myself off the pain meds by day 4; the drains were honestly the only thing bothersome. However, they were removed prior to 2 weeks. Developed mild lymphedema, but 3x sessions with PT, and I feel like a new person. Best of luck!!
