Gardening, anyone?

Enerva - You wouldn't want me to name your plants. In past, I would name plants rather childlike. First letter of the name of the plant, must have a name starting with that letter. Jake the Wandering Jew, Fanny the Fern . . . you get the picture . . . . and its a sad, sad picture. I don't name anymore, I have too many. But I do talk to them and stroke their leaves. My first houseplant did not go by the above naming rule. It was a rubber tree plant that I had for many years. His name was George. I particularly like your wall pots on the patio. I love hanging plants and could imagine some really nice hanging plants in them. I am curious, since I am so not a city dweller. Where do you go to purchase plants? We have the standard box stores, like Lowes and Home Depot but my favorites for houseplants are the privately owned garden centers or the mom and pop that has a greenhouse in their back yard. For veggies I have customers that we generally swap seeds and share what worked or not.

I haven't given up on (F) and (V) gardening, but do less and less planting and weeding.

I'm enjoying the pics, and once again need to get caught up on the chitchat.

Husband and I finished planting the (V) garden.

amaranthus - love lies bleeding seeds

Son is looking forward to the 1st onion sets (scallions).

So far no late frost in the North Country.

Jazzy. . .I love oleander. We bought a couple of plants years ago at a nursery in Charleston -- where they grow everywhere. They were beautiful that year and did not survive the Georgia winter. One of the things I want to do next year is some large pot containers which I can bring in during the cold months.

They were planted in the highway median between Houston and Galveston. Lovely sight. They are toxic to people too. There was a case of someone using an oleander stick to hold a hot dog in the fire and they became very ill from eating the hot dog. I have a list of plants toxic to cats. It's a wonder they've survived all these years. Although the list may be playing it safe because it listed mother-in-law's tongue which my cat chewed to bits and was not affected. After owning one plant-eating cat, I have no more house plants.

Love the cactus Jazz. . .we only have one that blooms and the flowers did not last long.

Enerva, absolutely love the patio gardening you are doing. You have done so much with the limited space. Sorry to hear the squirrels are still being pests. The video of the hummingbird is amazing! We have lots of hummers because of all the trumpet vine I have on a fence line, but who would have thought one would become so tame.

Jazzy, those blooms are so pretty. It makes me want to plant some cactus here, but DH would probably get mad if he got stuck by them. He already dislikes my jujubee trees because they have thorns. And that oleander I really like

I finally got the rest of the garden covered with straw. This was pretty fresh straw as I am seeing lots of grass sprouting in it. Grrrrrr.. Luckily all I have to do is lift the straw and the grass comes right up that way. The zukes and spaghetti squash seem to be coming along nicely in growth. I expect to see blossoms in another week or so. I think I am going to cover the plants this year because I detest squash bugs and I always seem to have them. :-( My melons and cukes are a lot further behind in growth but I am holding out high hopes for them. Pepper plants are finally starting to grow a little bigger and one has little peppers. A few more have blossom buds.

My shed is finally organized. Yeah! Now DH is going to put in some steps for me as it is too high for me to just walk into. I have been stepping up on concrete blocks. I thought about having him make a patio for the shed but it would have to be quite large to accomodate the doors. So I am just going for the steps now while I ponder the idea. I wish I was more of a visual person.

MOmmy I would love some more rain too. Temps in the mid 90s all week, Only a 20% chance of rain though.

Didn't get any rain, so I will have to water the garden today.
