Pelvic Mass? Tumor on ovary or bowel?

Options

Has anyone had a hard lump or mass in their lower pelvis? Mine is where my right ovary would be. It's only palpable while lying on my back, but has been here for 3 weeks now. Size of a golf ball and not mobile. I have no history of cysts or fibroids.

I scheduled a transvaginal ultrasound for next week but am overcome with anxiety.

I'm BRCA1 positive but no OC in family and l was told by genetic counselor there is not a big risk for OC until earliest age 35-40, and I'm currently 32. Worried it could be BC mets to ovary or bowel?

I have no other symptoms and no pain. All blood markers are normal, clear scans last November. Bowel habits and intercourse work fine. Was on birth control pills for 13 years before my breast dx, and told those protect against ovarian cancer for a long while.

Would love to hear from others who had this symptom as well as anyone who indeed ended up with either OC or breast cancer mets to this area.

Sorry you have this worry Elise. I've had ovarian cysts that are quite large, hard, and immobile. Maybe that's a possibility for you? Glad you are getting it checked out soon. I think an ultrasound would at least show cyst vs concerning mass--at least in my experience my cysts were obviously cysts when looked at with ultrasound.

Thanks guys...the reason it probably is not a cyst is that I am currently menopausal (from Lupron) and cysts are apparently caused by ovulation, which is not happening in my body anymore.

The body can produce cysts unrelated to menopause. It could be a dermoid, which I had on my ovary in my 30s (b-9). You could have an impacted bowel or divirtuculitis. It could be a fibroid that has positioned outside the uterus. Keep us posted and we are here for you! Sending good thoughts!

Shortly after my second child was born at age 40, during my annual exam my OB/GYN felt what he thought was an ovarian cyst. We followed it for several cycles, and when it did not subside, he decided it needed to come out. It turned out to be a low-grade carcinoma. Clean margins. No further treatment (until breast cancer at age 56. I'm 66 now.)

my transvaginal ultrasound was clear - I had 2 doctors look at it. They think the mass was probably just waste matter in my intestines - boy am I embarrased! :) But also relieved.

Elise, that is awesome!! Trust me, no doctor EVER complained or judged anyone bringing them great news. People fear going in for heart attack symptoms, thinking they're over-reacting. GO! NO need for embarrassment.

SO happy it is nothing except a lot of stress you didn't need. Thanks for updating us! Women's anatomy is hard to work with some times, which is why I suppose most of medicine ignored us lo these many decades.

trust me; those doctors were cheering that it was waste and not cancer. Never be embarrassed.

Happy to hear your good news
