Unsupported husband...am I over exaggerating?

Thank you everyone it's been 3 days since chemo and I feel great mild head ache but not today. Is it normal to feel this great after first chemo?

Hi!
The first three days are usually OK because you're still on a steroid high. Once that wears off, though, the side effects often hit. Of course, some women sail through chemo with minimal side effects. Hope you're one of those women!

Good Morning! Lala have you had a teaching appointment prior to any chemo? Everything that HoneyBadger said is exactly what I was told about how to be prepared. I took a friend with me to take notes since I knew I would not be able to focus! I was anxious about chemo because of what I had heard. It was not as bad as I expected. I had 12 weeks with infusion 4 times of taxotere and cytoxan. I also had a blood test before every infusion. The thing that made me sick was the Neulasta and Neupogen shots that I received after each infusion since I was anemic. That made me feel like I had the flu. The oncology nurses are great and were there in the infusion room the whole time. I did lose my hair about a week after my first infusion which was upsetting even though my team told me it would happen. It was in the winter and I live in the Northeast so I just wore hats. I don't have a husband so I can't offer advice on him but would expect that he is afraid too and maybe is trying to hide it and tell you that you will be okay so you feel better. I also live alone. My sister and her yellow lab Bronson live a mile away and are awesome. Cancer changes our lives in ways we never expect. I completed chemo and radiation and am now on hormone therapy for at least 5 years. It has been one year and I'm feeling pretty good. I wish you the best and will be praying for you. Maryellen

Chemo is cumulative. So even though you feel fine after #1, keep on top of the nausea meds. You want to remain preventive as much as you can. A good probiotic like Align kept my tummy discomfort all throughout feeling better.
I will add that while I didn't sail through chemo (I had 2 occasions of vomitting) for me chemo wasn't as bad as I had read. And while chemo is cumulative on one of my chemo meds #4 was the easiest. Go figure. That's why keep up on the preventive meds.

HapB - I agree probably having a dog around is dangerous because of chemo treatments. For the record I didn't have chemo - only radiation. I do disagree that all pit bulls are dangerous. We have a lab/pit bull mix and had 2 babies before they were run over. Our hearts still hurt from losing them.
The vast majority of time they are dangerous is because of their owners - not the dog. We have trained ours and know quite a few people who have as well. Dogs take their leads from their owners.
I am sorry when a dog - any dog - ever hurts a human being and just as upset when people abuse animals. I am a strong advocate for animal rights and I contribute to a number of rescues.
If her husband is putting the dogs before her care there is a lot more to be concerned about than the dogs. Hopefully they can resolve their impasse because she has a lot on her plate. If not it speaks volumes about their relationship IMO.
