Just Diagnosed- Waiting for Surgery Date
Hi all,
I'm 42 years old- Just diagnosed in May and waiting to be scheduled for a Lumpectomy and Sentinal node biopsy at the end of June. So blessed that it was caught in an early stage through Mammogram/Ultrasound. Most likely I will need radiation only and definitely Tamoxifen. Two of my first cousins on my mother's side and my paternal aunt also had breast cancer. Waiting for the results of genetic testing too.
Best wishes for healing for all who are in this unfortunate club!!

Welcome, newly diagnosed, although this isn't a forum anyone really wants to belong to! I'm glad you have a plan in place - many here will tell you that's a turning point. I didn't tell my adult daughter until armed with my plan. When I told her I had been diagnosed, she asked, "what are you going to do about it?" I had an answer!
We have very similar diagnoses although I am decades older than you. My surgery went very well - easy in and out of the outpatient surgery center. My breast incision didn't bother me that much. It's the SNB incision that seems to be problematic for most. Here's a tip: Keep a small pillow under your arm to prevent skin-to-skin contact. It helped me immensely. I still sleep with it.
I only took a few pain pills - I found Tylenol and Advil were sufficient. If you do take pain meds, be sure to take stool softeners as they cause major constipation (not fun!).
I had started going to fitness classes while being tested (started last October). I truly believe the classes made me stronger; both my RO and MO commented on well and quickly I healed. I was able to go back to class three weeks after surgery - with modifications. I've had 11 radiation treatments, which I've scheduled around my classes. I'm determined to keep going to them.
Best of luck to you. Let us know when you get your surgery date. You'll get lots of support here!

Thank you so much for your kind words Tappermom383! It's so nice to to hear from someone with a similar diagnosis. Thank you also for the tips. I went to the breast surgeon today so it was good to get some updated information. Now I'm just anxious to get the surgery date. I have two small children(5&4) and I'm trying to keep everything as normal as possible for them. It's great that you were able to get back on your feet so quickly. I do yoga at home about theee days a week and I love to take walks so hoping to continue that activity as quickly as possible after surgery.

It sounds like you are already on your way. I would encourage you to take notes on everything!
Also, there is another forum already going for B/C found in your 40's newly diagnosed. You might find it helpful to join that thread as well, more voices- and more confusion, but some of its good.
